The lawsuit alleges that Apple, Apple Canadaand several large e-book publishers conspired to “fix, maintain, increase or control the price of e-books” sold in Canada.

According to class action settlement websitethe publishers denied the allegations and none of the allegations were proven in court.

The defendants have since agreed to pay $15.175 million to settle the case.

The site states that claimants who have purchased 12 or more qualifying e-books from Google, Amazon, Sony, Kobo, or iTunes are eligible to receive payment.

Books published or distributed by Hachette, Harper Collins, MacMillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster are part of the claim.

It should be noted that e-books published or distributed by Penguin Random House Canada Limited after December 31, 2014 have been excluded.

Those who wish submit a complaint must do so by September 23, 2024.

According to the website, readers who have a valid email address through iTunes or Kobo are automatically enrolled in the claim and do not need to do anything.

It is further stated that iTunes and Kobo users will receive an email confirming their participation in the claim.

People who submit a claim using the online form will receive a check in the mail for the amount due to the address used when filling out the form.

Those who are subscribed through iTunes and Kobo should receive credits deposited into their accounts.

Please note that the funds will be lost if the account is closed before the transfer is made.

If your iTunes account is not active or has not been used within one year prior to data analysis, but is still linked to a valid email address, you will automatically receive payment via wire transfer.

Participants in the process should expect funds sometime in fall 2024.

Apple’s new lawsuit comes after the software company announced it would give Americans a one-time payment of up to $349 if they owned an iPhone 7.

O complaint involves “audio integrated circuit failure” of these devices caused by faulty audio chips.

Apple is accused of “concealing a material defect that causes the iPhone’s audio features to become unresponsive and
fail in their essential purpose as smartphones.”

The lawsuit added that the tech giant “was long aware of the problem” but “routinely refused to repair iPhones for free.”

“As a result of Apple’s unfair, deceptive and/or fraudulent business practices, the owners of iPhones, including Plaintiffs, have suffered verifiable losses,” the lawsuit states.

“Apple’s unfair and deceptive business practices were conducted in a manner that gave rise to substantial aggravations
circumstances.”
