This is the second time that the city, just 30 minutes from Chicago, has held the program.

Project 8092 will pay 150 families $500 per month for 12 months.

Participants can spend the money on whatever they need, which differs from most welfare programs, which often limit the use of funds.

Another important difference is that Project 8092 will not require drug testing.

Payments are scheduled to start going out this summer.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must live in Census Tract 8092, northwest of the city, to qualify for the program.

This covers the area between Green Bay Road, Church Street and McCormick Ave.

The half-square-mile area has about 5,000 residents.

The US Sun previously reported that those behind the program targeted the neighborhood due to its history of racial segregation through a practice called “redlining.”

They must also have a household income at or below 184% of the Federal Poverty Line.

Drivers can receive a one-time payment worth up to $1,000 from a $75 million settlement – and you don’t have to show a receipt

This ranges from $37,814 for a family of two to $97,532 for a family of eight.

Individuals must care for a child five years of age or younger.

MORE MONEY

A similar guaranteed income program was launched in Pomona, California.

Candidates selected to participate will receive US$500 per month for 18 months.

How does Guaranteed Income work?

The Guaranteed Income and Universal Basic Income programs have gained popularity recently.

After the Biden administration’s 2021 American Rescue Plan sent stimulus money to local governments, dozens began testing guaranteed income (GI) systems.

The specifics vary, but GI typically involves payments to people with low incomes. Unlike traditional welfare, there are no work requirements, drug tests, or other restrictions.

Some have advocated for a Universal Basic Income (UBI), which would go to everyone regardless of how much money they earn at work. Alaska has used a similar system since the 1970s.

Proponents say this alleviates poverty while encouraging work, unlike classic welfare, which cuts benefits to people who start earning “too much” money to qualify.

Opponents argue that such a system is too expensive to operate on a large scale and suggest that Americans should avoid becoming dependent on government money.

With some cities touting the success of GI programs, some Republican-led states have taken steps to ban them. States like Texas and Iowa, for example, undermined major spending plans by pushing against GI.

Recipients can also get $50 bonus payments for participating in research provided by UCLA.

The school will study the impact of the payments on families and use its findings for future guaranteed income programs.

There are three criteria to qualify:

  • Be a parent or guardian of children three years old or younger
  • Live within Pomona city limits
  • Have a household income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or 65% of the area median income, which equals $63,830 per year

250 families will be chosen and registrations will close on July 8th.

Eligible Americans will receive automatic rebates of up to $5,000 in just a few days.

And see how families can claim up to $1,500 in “free money.”
