A WALMART shopper has vowed never to shop at the store again, after multiple failed attempts to check out using the retailer’s own gift card.

One user said on X that they tried to use their Walmart gift card as a payment method, but three different self-checkout machines in the store were unable to recognize it.

“I will never shop in person at Walmart again,” said the user he said.

“I tried using a Walmart gift card someone gave me, but for some reason it doesn’t work in stores, which doesn’t make sense because they have a gift card option? I tried this with three different machines. It didn’t work.” they said.

They said the card only worked when they used it online.

But even that was a pain in the neck.

“It was processed (surprisingly) and my package stayed in the same place for three days,” the user said.

“What a joke Walmart is,” they added.

The US Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.

WALMART POLICY

According to an FAQ on its website, Walmart says users should double-check their balance if their gift cards are declined.

“If your card is declined, you should check your balance at www.walmartgift.com or by calling 1-866-633-9096,” Walmart said.

“If you have sufficient funds on your card, consider that the merchant may add a tip or some other amount to the transaction total,” he added.

Other shoppers have had bad experiences using their Walmart gift cards – if they were able to use them at all.

One shopper in Texas, for example, said she wouldn’t shop at Walmart again after her gift card ran out, even before she had a chance to use it.

What is Walmart Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go is designed to save shoppers time

Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay and check out, without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer outlines the new system to be implemented in a few easy steps:

  • Customers first need to download the Walmart app on their phone with location access enabled.
  • On the Store Mode home page, buyers must click on the Scan and Go option.
  • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
  • At the end, they will be asked to view their cart to ensure the quantity in the app matches the quantity in their cart.
  • Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
  • They will be asked to scan the QR code provided at the cash register and confirm their payment method.
  • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without any worries.

Another shopper, this time in Houston, purchased $1,000 worth of gift cards that she intended to distribute to those in need at Christmas.

However, she discovered that the cards had already lost $800 before anyone could use them.

The US Sun previously wrote about tips shoppers can use to see if they might be getting scammed for gift cards.

Apparently this could also be an issue at Walmart Canada.

When things are working as they should, there’s also a way to cash in your Walmart gift card.
