TEXAS Roadhouse customers were furious amid price hikes and varying portion sizes.

The restaurant company has increased menu costs at least three times since 2023, leaving customers paying more for their favorite foods and drinks.

He first confirmed a menu price increase in April 2023 of 2.2%, and then another in October of the same year of 2.7%, per Nashville Fox affiliate WZTV.

On a earnings call In February of this year, Texas Roadhouse CEO Chris Monroe confirmed a third menu price increase of 2.2%.

Monroe noted that the increase was directly related to supply chain and inflation issues facing restaurants across the country.

He said on the call that it was a measure by Texas Roadhouse to “offset inflationary pressures.”

While all customers are facing menu price increases at Texas Roadhouse stores, some have claimed the chain is now decreasing portion sizes.

The scenario is known by economists as “shrinking inflation”.

Shrinkflation refers to items that cost the same but have size reductions due to production costs or market changes.

It can be found in supermarkets, restaurants or many other retailers.

MEAT MADNESS

One Texas Roadhouse customer especially noticed the difference in the size of the patty from his son’s mini burger in June.

“Where the hell is the meat…” wrote restaurant Dennis Lowery in a publish to the Facebook.

Fast food chain abruptly closes 18 restaurants – poor sales were not to blame for the shutdowns

Dennis included photos of the meal, which showed a considerably small burger sandwiched between two buns and some condiments.

It’s unclear if the size was definitely different from the normal appearance of regular mini burgers at Texas Roadhouse.

Still, Dennis didn’t accept it.

“Prices go up and sizes fall, falling twice”, he criticized.

Restaurant Closings in 2024

BOSSes of major restaurant chains have announced a series of restaurant closures. The US Sun has compiled a list of those affected by the network.

  • Biscuit Barrel: Stores in Medford, Oregon, Columbia, South Carolina and Sacramento, California, closed.
  • Mod Pizza: Bosses dramatically closed 27 stores in April, including some in the state of California.
  • Frisch’s Big Boy: Restaurant bosses confirmed the closure of a restaurant in Covington, Kentucky, in April.
  • Outback Steakhouse: The chain will close 41 “underperforming” locations this year.
  • Two dolars: Four restaurants in Ohio closed in April.
  • Pepper: A restaurant in Port Arthur, Texas, has closed permanently, as has another in Irvine, California.
  • Friendly: Bosses have confirmed that an establishment in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, will close.
  • Pizza Hut: A restaurant in Glen Falls, New York, closed in late March, followed by four in Ohio in June and 15 in Indiana.
  • Danny: Two restaurants in Boise and Nampa, Idaho, have closed.
  • Carl’s Jr.: The first location in Boise, Idaho, has closed.
  • In and out: A location in Oakland closed earlier this year due to crime in the area.
  • cheesecake factory: The chain is expected to close a location in Memphis, Tennessee, in July.
  • Applebee’s: Announced the closure of between 25 and 35 locations this year.
  • Taco John’s: He closed a restaurant in Minnesota and put the building up for sale in May.
  • Rubio’s Coastal Grill: Announced the closure of 48 locations in California after filing for bankruptcy.
  • Burger King: It closed a California location in June after 30 years.

Other customers were shocked by Dennis’s discovery and expressed similar sentiments about the price increases in supposed reductions in portion sizes.

“This is ridiculous!” someone exclaimed.

“This is just horrible,” added another.

NOT ALONE

Amid the price increases, Texas Roadhouse also plans to open at least 30 more locations with extra space for to-go orders by the end of the year.

Some restaurants, like Olive Garden, are also following Texas Roadhouse in matching menu prices to inflation rates.

Olive Garden noted that it would increase menu costs for a similar reason in June, as customers said the chain was “playing with other people’s money.”

Chipotle and Starbucks also raised prices by at least 8% in April.

At least five popular McDonald’s menu items, including Big Macs, have also shot up 150% in price over the past five years.
