The class action lawsuit concerns a data security incident that occurred in September 2022 involving Bay Bridge administrators.

The suit alleges that an unauthorized third party may have gained access to certain Bay Bridge files.

The files contained confidential personal information of employees of Bay Bridge customers stored on the Bay Bridge network.

Personal information included names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers or state identification numbers, medical information, and health information.

Bay Bridge denies any wrongdoing and denies any liability, but has agreed to settle the lawsuit.

To be eligible to file a complaint, an individual must have received a letter about the Bay Bridge security incident.

Claimants under the settlement agreement will be eligible to receive one or both of the settlement benefits.

The first is for direct losses, in which the claimant will be reimbursed for the actual value of the direct losses or expenses up to $5,000.

Applicants must have documentation proving monetary losses or expenses.

The applicant may also request a pro rata cash payment, which is an estimated cash payment of $50 in accordance with the settlement proposal.

Americans can claim to be paid up to $10,000 in $6 million data breach settlements – and you only need to meet a single criteria

This amount will be increased or decreased depending on the amount remaining in the fund after direct losses are allocated.

Claim forms must be submitted or postmarked by July 24, 2024.

According to Harvard Business ReviewData breaches increased last year when many companies started using cloud setup.

More than 60% of corporate data around the world it is estimated to be stored in the cloud.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

By 2023, more than 80% of data breaches involved data stored in the cloud.

Companies unintentionally misuse the cloud by allowing “overly permissive cloud access, having unrestricted ports, and using unsecured backups.”

The parties involved may exclude themselves from the agreement by submitting an exclusion request. This must be sent or postmarked by June 24, 2024.

If the individual does nothing, they will not receive payment.

Meanwhile, Americans have just days to claim $1,000 checks from another $75 million data breach settlement.

Additionally, Dollar General is handing over millions of dollars as part of a settlement with the Department of Labor.
