McDonald’s fans spot a clue in new test menu item and ‘beg’ for return of ‘nothing compares’ fan favorite

FAST food lovers are begging McDonald’s to bring back a fan-favorite item to the menu, as eagle-eyed eaters have uncovered a major clue that could lead to the item returning sooner than expected.

For years, McDonald’s has been bombarded with requests from fans to bring back the beloved snack that first appeared on menus in 2006.

Before being discontinued, the wrap featured 100% white meat chicken breast that could be served crispy or grilled with lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and Monterey cheese in a soft flour tortilla.

Customers regularly purchased one or more wraps as a snack or part of a larger meal, often customizing with sauces of their choice, including ranch, honey mustard or salsa roja.

However, the fan-favorite item disappeared from U.S. menus in 2016.

Since then, fans of the snack have taken to social media to ask McDonald’s to bring it back.

“I see what Wendy is doing with that wrap…but no wrap compares to the McDonalds wrap,” said one customer. wrote in a post for X.

“Day 118 asking @McDonalds to bring back the crispy ranch chicken snack,” another said in a separate post.

“Please, I’m begging you.”

These McDonald’s fans may be in for a pleasant surprise once other eagle-eyed customers spot a clue on the menu that could mean the snack is coming back soon.

A food influencer known as Snack with Zack recently revealed in a video shared on Instagram and TikTok that in July seven stores in North Carolina tested new McCrispy chicken trips.

This test would aim to verify whether the fast food company would be able to add the product to the chain’s kitchen without any interruption, according to to the owner of a McDonald’s franchise known as McFranchisee on X.

Snack with Zack explained that chicken strips are a key ingredient in the beloved snack and their addition to the menu is the first step in reclaiming the fan-favorite item.

“Eventually, we will get the snack packaging back,” he said.

“This is the key.”

Late last year, McDonald’s indicated that the snacks would reappear on the menu, but not for some time.

The restaurant chain explained that it would expand its chicken offerings on its menu, including focusing its attention on McNuggets, McChicken, McSpicy and the McCrispy sandwich.

2006: Snack packaging was introduced for the first time on store menus across the country.

2016: McDonald’s decided to discontinue the item, with current and former employees claiming the item was too complicated and time-consuming compared to what it cost customers.

2020: Some individual franchises in the US have still managed to make and sell snack packs for several years. In 2020, the item was removed from stores across the country.

2023: McDonald’s revealed it would focus more on chicken offerings, including snacks, in the coming years.

2024: Stores in North Carolina were spotted testing McCrispy chicken strips, a key ingredient in the snack’s packaging.

2025: The expectation is that the snack will return to US menus.

As part of this, the company said the sandwich would be available in tenders and wraps.

However, at the time, McDonald’s said the snack packaging likely won’t hit U.S. stores until 2025.

US Sun previously reported that customers lamented that it would take so long for their favorite item to return to the menu.

While McDonald’s fans can’t get their hands on the snack packaging in the US just yet, the item is still available in stores in Canada and the UK.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond to The US Sun’s request for comment.
