Rare coin influencer Eric Miller (@thecoinchannel) shared what to look for on her TikTok account.

Miller showed that the special penny sold for as much as $26,868.75.

But the value is in the details.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

The lucky coin was made in 1922.

Miller said this date is important for value.

“All 1,922 cents were minted in Denver,” he explained.

Cents usually have lowercase letters signifying their mint of origin.

These “mint marks” typically appear directly below the date on penny coins.

All 1922 cents must have a lowercase D – meaning the Denver mint.

However, on some coins this letter is missing.

This is a rare design that can sell for a lot of money to collectors.

But it is also worth a lot for the condition it is in.

“You can also tell the coin is in very good condition,” Miller said.

Miller, who represents Professional Coin Grading Service, recommended that anyone who finds a rare coin get it graded. This can increase the value while ensuring it is legitimate.

However, Miller showed that even ungraded 1922 coins could sell for around $1,300.

How coins are classified

Coins are graded on a scale of one to 70, with one being the lowest grade and 70 being the purest example.

Numbers 60 to 70 are generally the most sought after by collectors and are known as Mint State coins.

Pieces worth thousands of dollars at auction are commonly found in MS67, MS68, and MS69 condition.

An MS-70 is almost impossible to find among older coins.

MORE COINS

Miller has shared a number of rare coin finds on his page.
