‘Start letting us use scanner guns again,’ Costco shopper demands after huge lines as others say ‘I would have walked away’

COSTCO customers are furious about long lines at their stores, as one of them placed a specific order that they believe will speed up checkout.

The buyer went to Xformerly known as Twitter, complaining about the length of grocer’s lines after recently making a big change to its checkout process.

The consumer addressed Costco directly in your post in the hopes that someone within the company can actually change things by allowing customers to use self-checkout.

“Dear @Costco, start letting us use scanner guns again,” the post read stated.

“This line is absurd.”

The shopper included a photo of a line so long in front of him that the cash register isn’t even visible in the image.

Several other consumers responded to the post expressing how they would handle his situation.

One person recommended that the user complaining about Costco lines go to a different retailer.

“Sam, bro,” they replied.

“Sam.”

“Scanning and going to Sam’s Club is the best option,” someone added.

A good number of respondents noted that they prefer Sam’s for its Scan & Go app option, which allows shoppers to avoid checkout lines altogether.

“I would have parked my cart,” admitted another X user.

“I got a hot dog and left.”

“That’s every Costco you go to,” said one fan of the retailer.

“Thank the thieves for this,” one user emphasized.

One individual quipped, “I don’t think scanner guns fall under the 2nd Amendment.”

Even when Costco allowed its customers to scan their items themselves, shoppers still had complaints.

The grocer originally removed self-checkout entirely in 2013 before bringing express lines back in 2019.

When self-checkout returned, the main complaint consumers talked about had to do with the self-checkout process being different from other stores like Target, Walmart and Sam’s Club.

Costco fans took to Reddit expressing that some customers have access to handheld scanners for items, while others are forced to have employees register their items for them.

Some said shoppers are not allowed to scan bulkier items, requiring an employee to come and scan just a few items.

There was a commotion in the Costco lines, even when there was self-checkout, as there are limitations on the number of workers available at that station at a time.

This meant that the process often took a while if the customer waited their turn to receive assistance.

Costco has begun abandoning self-checkout as an option for its shoppers at summer 2023 to crack down on rising retail theft.

It was hit by the reduction of some items taken from the store without paying and by individuals scanning products for less than the advertised price, Austin American-Statesman reported.
