Sharing her story on X, a shopper named Casey said the store should explain its business more clearly.

“I’ve never left a shopping cart behind,” she said. “Today I did.”

“You need to explain your new Sabbath. online offers a little more at [the] ad,” she said.

While the rest of the tweet is vague, it appears she tried to use an online coupon at the store.

After learning she couldn’t make it, she tried to make the same purchase online, but apparently didn’t have an order large enough for the coupon to be applied.

“I went somewhere else!” she said.

SECURITY ANSWERS

Safeway responded to the post.

“We’re sorry to hear about your experience with our online offerings and we’re sorry you left your groceries behind,” the company’s X account said.

He then asked her for more details via direct messages.

Stores often seek more details in a private setting to verify customer complaints.

‘Take anything that isn’t nailed down,’ disturbing flyer tells Safeway shoppers just months after removing self-checkout

It’s unclear whether Casey ever responded.

Safeway has about 980 stores, mostly in the West and around Washington, D.C., according to the data website Scratch Hero.

How to reduce the cost of your grocery store

BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on shopping.

  • Write a list for yourself – Buy only items you need. If it’s not on your list, don’t add it to your cart
  • Create a budget – Create a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never buy hungry – You are much more likely to buy more food if your tummy is growling
  • Do not buy pre-cut vegetables or fruits – The extra they charge for cutting can be eye-watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favorite retailers to find out about the latest offers
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the fine print – It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/liter when comparing offers so you make an equal decision, as a bigger box doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up for all of them. They all work a little differently – find out which bonus suits you best and remember to redeem your points for additional rewards

CUSTOMERS COMPLAIN

Large chains like Safeway are frequent targets of complaints from online shoppers.

While some companies resolve customer service issues through social media, others are less proactive about their image.

Costco, for example, does not have an active X account.

Others frequently respond to buyer complaints.

Many customers have complained about the increase in locked merchandise at places like Walmart.

A Walmart shopper recently left his cart behind because of an “embarrassing” problem.
