A POPULAR furniture chain has filed for bankruptcy and closed 70 of its branches.

Conn’s Home Plus abruptly closed stores in 13 states after reports of poor sales.

The chain has filed for Chapter 11 protection in a court in Texas, according to Bloomberg.

These financial problems were reportedly attributed to falling sales and integration problems at a rival company.

Conn’s bought the WS Badcock chain last year in a bid to grow.

The retailer listed its assets and liabilities at about $1 billion each, according to court documents seen by Bloomberg.
