Nita Bruggenschmidt-Vos explained in her publish that she spoke to an employee who appeared to be a manager about being charged more for the products she purchased.

“He informed me that they were having a lot of issues with pricing,” she shared in the post.

“How many people are leaving that store and not realizing they were overcharged?”

Bruggenschmidt-Vos said she purchased seven items from Hy-Vee.

“Five of which were priced higher,” said the buyer.

That’s when she admitted to being charged almost three times the advertised price for an everyday item.

“Of course sent to the service desk to get my money back,” the post stated.

“While waiting, I noticed phone chargers for $5. A good deal… well no, I was charged 14.98!”

Bruggenschmidt-Vos said that’s when she went to tell the “manager or someone who appeared to be the manager” about the problem and found no real excuse as to why it happened.

The inconvenient experience of being charged more than she should have for purchases reminded her of an incident she suffered in Wal-Martnoted the buyer.

“I also had an issue at Walmart, but luckily an employee noticed that there were already scanned items in the self-checkout when I scanned my pet food,” said the consumer.

“I can usually get what I need in my small town, but there are times when you need to go other places! I always check my receipts, but I’m going to be even more careful now. Check your receipts!”

While Bruggenschmidt-Vos shared that she had been overcharged by several retailers when checking her receipts, other shoppers commented on her post sharing their feelings.

They’ve even expanded their short list of stores to watch.

What to do if you are overwhelmed

If you’re overcharged at a retailer, there are a few ways you can get your money back.

If you notice that you have been charged more than the advertised or published price, inform an employee or manager.

Be sure to keep your receipt to show the price difference.

As a buyer, you are entitled to the lowest advertised, published or quoted price offered by the store.

If you are charged more than the advertised, posted or quoted price, inform the seller immediately. If the seller cannot help, speak to the manager.

Stores must honor the published price, even if the price has expired.

You can also dispute charges with your bank if you notice something suspicious on your statement.

“It’s happening everywhere,” emphasized one Facebook user.

“Be sure to check your general dollar receipts too! I haven’t had any issues at Hy-Vee and that’s usually where I go to buy groceries.”

The commenter said it’s likely that the place where Bruggenschmidt-Vos was shopping may have actually had a problem with pricing at the time.

“They’re always so good when I forget coupons or something,” the user continued in the post.

“I’ll be going later today actually, so I’ll keep an eye out!”

In response, one person said that “every time they shop at Dollar General they have an overcharging problem.

“Even the mini donuts were two different prices and of course I was charged the higher price,” they added.

“I’m glad I picked it up before leaving the store!”
