The change was announced on the retailer’s website in July.

O Press release stated that with this new feature, the retailer hopes to integrate “physical and digital shopping journeys” to help members easily find more products while shopping in-store.

Members with the mobile app feature can use their devices to scan items while purchasing and completing payment.

This feature allows customers to skip the checkout line entirely.

Members who opt-in will see display ads on the cart page that update after each new product check.

It also allows shoppers to discover products while checking out with Scan & Go.

The feature allows advertisers to better understand Club members and can help drive sales of certain products, according to the press release.

Sam’s Club said Scan & Go adoption has increased 50% over the past three years.

“This new capability reflects our obsession and member commitment to ensuring ads reach the right members at the right time in their shopping journey,” said Diana Marshall, Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer.

Marshall said the feature allows the retailer to “better understand member purchasing behavior.”

Additionally, the retailer promised to “keep member experience at the forefront” while helping its advertisers achieve their goals.

The retailer also said that placing display ads in the checkout experience makes it even more convenient for members to complete their purchases.

The resource proposed a new way of measuring purchasing behavior.

This feature will help advertisers reach more Sam’s Club members in the future.

What is Walmart Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go is designed to save shoppers time

Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay and check out, without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer outlines the new system to be implemented in a few easy steps:

  • Customers first need to download the Walmart app on their phone with location access enabled.
  • On the Store Mode home page, buyers must click on the Scan and Go option.
  • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
  • At the end, they will be asked to view their cart to ensure the quantity in the app matches the quantity in their cart.
  • Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
  • They will be asked to scan the QR code provided at the cash register and confirm their payment method.
  • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without any worries.

The addition promises to provide a more immersive experience as part of Sam’s Club’s broader approach to digital engagement.

Sam’s Club members said they appreciate the option to quickly scan their items using the retailer’s Scan & Go feature.

“Dude this is why I’ll go to @SamsClub if there’s one nearby, scan and call your phone, no lines, no playing with lines,” said one customer tweeted. “Costco is stuck in the past.”

“@SamsClub lets you scan as you go and check out and show you paid. SAMS is where you should be,” said another.

“How come @Costco doesn’t have “Scan and Go” like @SamsClub? One of the many reasons we stopped going to Costco,” tweeted a third.

Meanwhile, some Sam’s Club customers are furious that the retailer changed its subscription service without informing customers or employees.

And a Costco shopper encouraged shoppers to switch to a rival competitor after the retailer announced that member prices were rising.
