A LOTTERY player was very lucky to win $200,000 which he would invest in a new home.

The winner and his partner, from upstate South Carolina, explained how they would have lost a life-changing amount of money if they didn’t write a second check.

This pair, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased a $5 Double Sided Dollars Extra Play lottery ticket.

The receipt was purchased at a convenience store in Spartanburg, about 70 miles southeast of Charlotte, North Carolina.

This couple purchased their ticket at a Circle K store on E. Main St, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The wife explained that she initially threw away the ticket thinking it was a loser.

Her husband realized his mistake when he saw the paper in the trash.

“You got a 12,” he remembers shouting to his wife.

The strip had not been completely scratched before it was thrown away.

She crossed out the rest of the paper to reveal that they had won the huge prize.

They visited the state’s lottery outlets to claim the prize.

The couple told lottery officials they would use the money to buy a new home.

Another lottery player could also suffer the same lucky fate as this couple, as there is still one more important prize up for grabs.

There are also 32 second-place prizes worth $1,000 available.
