FURIOUS customers have spoken out against AMC Theaters after noticing a mandatory $2 delivery fee for in-theater purchases.
Viewers expressed their frustration on social media with the network’s hidden cost.
After a TikToker posted a video touting AMC’s surprise costs, people flooded the comments to criticize the change.
Despite placing the order inside the movie theater, the customer’s receipt contained a $2 delivery fee.
One Popcorn and two sodas cost almost $24, and that was before the extra fee was added.
“Pretty weak move AMC Movie Theaters,” wrote TikToker KiknTiger in a caption accompanying the video.
“The delivery fee INSIDE a movie theater is crazy,” he added.
Reactions in the comments of this TikTok shared their shock.
“It seems like they don’t want me to go see movies,” said one.
“Add to the list of reasons I will never go to the movies again,” wrote someone else.
As many Americans struggle with rising inflation, this additional fee could be another reason they choose to watch a movie at home instead of going to the theater.
AMC Theaters has come close to filing for bankruptcy in recent years, but has managed to stay afloat.
This hidden delivery fee, however, may make customers think twice about going to the cinema.
“Oh wow. Didn’t know they were doing this. Another reason to relax at home,” another comment read.
“$27 for two sodas and a popcorn. Or you can get this from 7am to 11am for $3 and stay home,” read a similar comment.
It seems viewers are not happy with these additional fees.
Movie theaters are notoriously known for their overpriced food and drinks, and this delivery fee will only make customers’ bills more expensive.
However, other customers have suggested the tactics they use to get around these high costs.
“Just bring your own food. They never check. You can literally bring a bag full of food and drinks,” said one user.
US Sun has reached out to AMC Theater for comment.
Viewers compared the additional fee to prices for food delivery services, where customers must pay a few extra dollars to have their products brought to their door.
AMC’s extra fee, however, makes less sense for customers as they purchase food and drinks inside the theater.
“Imagine if restaurants charged a delivery fee,” wrote one frustrated user.
