They described the incident as “my worst experience” at a Walmart store.

The woman explained that she was disabled and was looking for a motorized cart to help her in the store.

“The staff were too busy talking to each other to help me,” she said. he wrote on Facebook.

“I had to go to self-checkout because the only open lanes with checkers were a mile long.

“I had a question about one of my items. I waited more than 5 minutes for the 5 employees at the end of the self-checkout to realize that I was waving for help,” said the woman.

According to her, employees were distracted and on the phone.

“When I realized they wouldn’t be helpful, I asked to speak to the manager.

“Everyone came back to the visiting place and talked bad about me and had a good laugh,” she continued.

“Two other employees passed by, but they didn’t help me either.

“I never saw the manager, although I waited about 20 minutes,” she added.

Frustrated, the buyer called an employee a “clown” and abandoned the cart.

“Out of nowhere, a lady named ‘Cora’ flew in front of me. She didn’t know what was going on…she got very, very loud when she kicked me out of the store,” the customer wrote.

“They certainly treat people with a lot of respect.”

Walmart responded to this post on Facebook, admitting “you deserve a better experience when you shop with us.”

US Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment on this incident.

This doesn’t appear to be the first time something like this has happened.

Another Walmart talked about a similar experience in the same post.

“This also happens at the local Walmart, I even called to say my husband waited an hour for a scooter, to no avail.

“No one ever called me back,” they said.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

Walmart has also been criticized in recent months for strict self-checkout rules and ongoing receipt checks.

The retailer recently introduced a 15 items or fewer policy, meaning shoppers with more items are not allowed to use self-checkout counters.

This policy, however, has frustrated many customers who are not willing to wait in long lines to pay at the cash register.

“I literally had 17 items… and they only had one line with an open register,” one Walmart customer said on social media.

Others are tired of having their receipts checked when leaving the store.

These measures were initially introduced to reduce shoplifting, but shoppers are often unimpressed.

“I walk past them. I always call over their shoulder… I call the police,” said one customer who argued that they do not need to comply with these checks.
