A FUMING Costco shopper has criticized the chain for allegedly not allowing him to pay for his items due to a strict membership policy.

Costco has cracked down on member sharing in recent months and members are not happy about it.

The buyer said he had gone to Costco with his wife, but faced a problem when paying.

Having forgotten his wallet at home, he was forced to use his wife’s membership card to check out.

An employee “looked at the card and said it’s not you,” Steve Berry he wrote on Facebook.

Berry explained that he was shopping with his wife and she had just gone to the bathroom.

“Well, she needs to be here,” the employee allegedly told Berry.

He claimed he told the employee he would wait for his wife to return and delay the rest of the line.

“OK, wait in line or put things in, your choice,” he said.

“Guess what he examined me… I thought that was ridiculous.

“Poor guy said that [was] corporate,” Berry added.

Costco does not allow customers to share member IDs, even with their families, which has created problems for many.

Berry called the policy “overkill” and other shoppers seem to agree.

The chain announced earlier this year that it would install scanning machines at store entrances to reduce member sharing.

And customers took to social media to complain about the retailer’s crackdown.

GROWING DISSATISFACTION

“Poor Costco. How are they going to survive if, God forbid, I let the single mom at work use my card to buy something?” said one customer on social media.

“Honestly, Costco is not worth it anymore,” declared another.

“Why oh why must they do this????” said one buyer.

Another asked “who refuses money/sales?”

Some customers claim they have been forced to abandon full shopping carts after being turned away from checkouts due to the strict membership policy.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

“I had my mom’s Costco card and they gave me such a hard time they literally wouldn’t let me buy anything,” said one customer.

“I left that cart right there in line.”

“Costco has officially lost my business FOREVER,” wrote another customer.

“I have never been so embarrassed to have to leave with my children empty-handed.

“I was willing to pay more than 200 dollars!” she exclaimed.
