An iconic fashion chain known for its appearances in Hollywood films has closed two of its stores for the last time.

The store has become a pop culture reference point and fashion trendsetter for many people in the United States.
The retailer closed its last two stores in Los Angeles this week after more than 60 years in business — one in Malibu and the other on Sunset Boulevard.
Jeff Lotman, CEO of Fred Segal, hoped this wasn’t the end of the brand, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I hope someone can get it back and take it away,” Lotman said.
“It’s really one of the great fashion brands out there.”
He explained that the closure of the fashion chain was a result of the lack of supply of its own products.
“Retail is hard and being a multi-brand retailer is even harder,” he said.
Larry Russ, the attorney representing the Segal Family, said there is hope to open stores again at some point.
“We will look for a new operator to open more stores in the future,” he said.
Fred Segal’s Melrose Avenue location was incredibly popular since it opened in 1961.
The store was frequented by celebrities and fashionistas.
In addition to films, Fred Segal has also appeared in TV series such as Beverly Hills, 90210.
Lotman has owned the company since 2019 through his brand licensing company Global Icons.
Taking on the role just months before the Covid-19 pandemic, Lotman was forced to participate in the company’s day-to-day operations.
“Everything fell apart and then I had to become a retailer, which wasn’t what I planned to do,” he said.
Although all of the chain’s clothing stores are closed in Los Angeles, Fred Segal Home still remains open in Culver City, California — just a 15-minute drive from Beverly Hills.
Lotman had previously expressed optimism about the brand’s future, but it appears that wasn’t enough to keep the doors open.
He had previously said in 2023 that plans were underway to open stores in Europe and Asia.
“No other brand better represents Los Angeles and the cool California lifestyle than we do,” Lotman said at the time.
