A FURIOUS Walmart shopper has blasted the chain for its poor customer service and declared he won’t be returning.

The customer took to social media to complain about their recent shopping experience.

“This will be my last Wal-Mart trip”, Mitch Hastings he said on Facebook.

“Apparently weekday mornings are now limited to self-checkout only. There is no working box.

“So I spent 30 minutes scanning $400 worth of groceries with the machine showing errors on every other item while an employee stood behind me to scan each time.

“I had to ask her to take care of my cart so I could go to the front of the store and get an empty cart to put my bags in.

“Then, on the way out, someone sitting at the entrance tried to stop me to see my receipt, ‘no thanks’ and kept walking.

“Right now, they are just mocking us as consumers,” the buyer declared.

Retailers in the US have become more reliant on self-checkout in recent years.

These measures were taken to supposedly speed up customer payments.

Many, however, have criticized this decision, arguing that it makes checkout procedures slower and more complicated.

“This is why I don’t go to Walmart anymore, especially to buy groceries,” said one customer.

“I haven’t shopped at Walmart since 2019,” wrote another.

“I used to do all my shopping at Walmart with the four kids. Self-checkout was too much for me.”

It’s unclear whether all U.S. Walmart stores have transitioned to self-checkout kiosks on weekday mornings only.

The US Sun reached out to Walmart to clarify this issue.

Other Walmart customers have adopted a different checkout policy.

Some stores have started implementing a 15 items or less self-checkout policy and this has left customers equally angry.

The measure was introduced to reduce shoplifting, but many were not impressed.

“Why not self-checkout maybe 35 items or less?” one shopper asked.

“I spend over $500 a month at Walmart, but no more,” said another.

“What sense does it make to change self-checkout lanes to 15 items or less BUT only have 2-3 checkouts open?!

“MAKE SENSE.”

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

Target has also implemented a similar policy.

They allow shoppers to have just 10 items or less at automatic checkout.

“Who leaves Target with less than 10 items?!” a frustrated customer asked.

“Man I really hate that Target self-checkout is now only for 10 items or less,” said another.

The original Facebook post also complained about receipt checks.

This is another anti-theft measure that retailers have adopted to reduce shoplifting.

But the policy caused controversy among many buyers.

Kroger customers argued that the checks are meaningless.

“All they do is take your receipt and mark it with a box cutter,” one said.

“They don’t check your bags to make sure they match your purchases, so this is absolutely no deterrent or solution to shoplifting.”
