An angry Costco shopper criticized the retailer for allegedly taking his cart, but customers think his reaction is unreasonable.

The buyer took to social media to express his frustration.

“Vent. Costco. Cars disappearing. I had my cart full, about to check out, then I realized I had forgotten an item, so I left my cart for a maximum of 4 minutes while I picked up the last item,” Mark James he wrote on Facebook.

“I come back and my cart is gone. WTF?

“The same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. I had to go out and get another cart and start all over again.

“I asked an employee and he said if he sees an ‘abandoned’ cart he will pick it up and start putting things back on the shelves.

“It’s a big store, it’s crowded, how about giving us more than 4 minutes before getting our carts?” the buyer declared.

Social media has been flooded with complaints about Costco in recent months, and shoppers are usually quick to sympathize.

However, in this case, other buyers were not as quick to defend this customer.

Many wondered why James left his cart.

“Why didn’t you take the cart with you? I don’t understand,” said one comment.

“Do you expect all workers to read your mind??? How will they know you didn’t just abandon your cart?”

‘I left that cart right there,’ says Costco shopper after being stopped at checkout – she had membership card in hand

“Take your damn cart without you. You are not entitled to a spot in the checkout line,” said another.

“I think you have a lesson to learn here. Take the cart with you.”

The US Sun has reached out to Costco for comment.

While some Costco policies anger many shoppers, it appears this alleged incident is not something people can relate to.

“I bet this comment section didn’t go in the direction you expected,” said one customer.

“You expect them to time your cart to see how long it’s been there?

“An abandoned cart is an abandoned cart. Do normal and bring it with you next time haha”, they declared.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

“I’m afraid this post backfired,” read another comment.

One of the complaints many shoppers agree with, however, is Costco’s recent crackdown on membership card sharing.

Members are not allowed to share their IDs with anyone – not even their family

And customers believe this policy is overly harsh.

“Why is Costco having police state behavior,” said one of them.

“Poor Costco. How are they going to survive if, God forbid, I let the single mom at work use my card to buy something?” another said.

“Who turns down money/sales?”
