Abruptly pulls main TV channel’s website as fans fear it’s gone forever – and worry about Discovery and HGTV

Visitors to the Cartoon Network website now receive a pop-up message asking them to sign up for Max, the Warner Bros. streaming service.

“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required),” the message said in part, for The Hollywood Reporter.

People can still access their favorite shows on the TV channel and apps.

When users close the pop-up, it directs them to the Cartoon Network channel on Max.

The network addressed the shutdown in a statement saying, in part: “We are focusing on Cartoon Network programs and social media, where we find consumers are most engaged and there is significant potential for growth,” said a spokesperson for Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He also confirmed that viewers can still “tune in to the Cartoon Network channel to enjoy 11 hours of your favorite Cartoon Network series from 6am to 5pm daily.”

‘WALL OF SHAME’

Due to the shutdown, there is speculation that other channels may be at risk.

Warner Bros. Discovery also owns TNT, TBS, HGTV and the adult channel Adult Swim.

As of Friday, the other sites appear to be active, but some believe that since the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery, the company’s goals changed.

Some argue that the company is now throwing away its long-standing legacy for money instead of doing what it does best.

FAN TURNED

The site not only offered a selection of the network’s various TV shows, but also featured popular games.

“Rip GOAT, thanks for the memories,” one user he wrote in X.

They paired their tweet with four gaming photos, including Teen Titians and Harum Scarum.

One user hoped the company would keep the games in a safe place to play again in the future.

“God please, I hope they are archived somewhere, I want to play Harum Scarum in 15 years when I randomly remember,” they shared.

Cartoon Network has closed its website, encouraging viewers to subscribe to Max to continue watching their favorite shows online.

“We are focusing on Cartoon Network shows and social media, where we find consumers are most engaged and there is significant potential for growth,” said a Cartoon Network spokesperson, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“While we have closed some digital products, fans can continue to interact with Cartoon Network through the Cartoon Network app, as well as with select TV provider apps on platforms including mobile and connected devices like Roku, Apple TV and Amazon and through social platforms YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.

“And of course, fans can also continue tuning in to the Cartoon Network channel to enjoy 11 hours of their favorite Cartoon Network series from 6am to 5pm daily.”

Another viewer was disappointed with how much the channel changed.

“That sucks. I remember going to that site sometimes, even my brother, because he loved Cartoon Network at the time, and so did I,” they he wrote in X.

“It’s sad to know how bad things have gotten over the last decade.”

One hopeful user wrote, “I hope this means Cartoon Network shows will be back.”
