MILLIONS of YouTube users are eligible for a free update using artificial intelligence to make the viewing experience smoother, but you must have a specific account to try it out.

For just over three weeks, Google’s YouTube has been allowing premium members to bypass certain often-skipped parts of a video with just a click of a button.

The new feature uses “controversial AI” technology to determine how and why users would skip part of a video.

When watching a video, eligible users will see a button appear in the bottom right corner that says “Skip Ahead.”

When you click the button, the video will automatically jump to a section that viewers normally go to when watching.

Until May 21st, YouTube is asking premium members to test the feature.

In the test, the company will ask users about the video they are watching and choose from a series of prompts to share feedback.

Providing feedback is said to not interfere with any video playback, appearing just below viewed clips.

“This experiment uses conversational AI to answer questions about the videos you’re watching, recommend content, and help you learn — all without interrupting playback,” YouTube said.

The feature is only available for the YouTube Android app for users aged 18 and over who live in the United States.

He reportedly doesn’t appear in every video yet, however, the ones he does appear in seem to get a lot of views, according to 9to5Google.

It is also only available for English videos.

Google asks all users to change the settings of 12 popular apps to prevent attacks – Amazon, Uber and WhatsApp are on the list

Be sure to review your account settings to see if you are eligible to test the new feature.

Eligible users can sign up to take part in the test study until filling out a form with Google’s User Experience Research Group.

If selected, participants will receive a follow-up questionnaire and details about next steps.

Participants should also receive a gift card at the end of the test.

GOOGLE AND AI

“Jump Ahead” technology isn’t the only AI Google has been experimenting with in recent months.

In March, the company announced it was enhancing its shopping capabilities with AI to help streamline the online shopping experience.

Google revealed it would use AI to help “generate images” in searches to help shoppers find the perfect piece of clothing.

Google also recently said it has developed an AI model to help predict the weather, called the Scalable Ensemble Envelope Diffusion Sampler (SEEDS).

The model uses AI to generate a large number of weather forecasts at the same time, allowing for broader analysis and predictions.

“This technology opens up new opportunities for weather and climate science and represents one of the first applications of probabilistic diffusion models for weather and climate prediction,” Google said in March.
