APPLE has finally revealed new iPads at a special event – ending a 559-day wait for new models.

The iPhone maker showed off the gadgets at its Let Loose event, with Apple boss Tim Cook calling it “the biggest day for the iPad since its launch.”

“There is no other device like this. The iPad is powerful, portable and incredibly versatile,” Cook told Apple fans during the event.

SUPER SCREEN!

The new iPad Pro comes in two different screen size variants, 13 and 11 inches.

But these screens have received a big upgrade: they are now OLED panels that can reach 1,000 nits of brightness for HDR content and 1,600 nits at maximum brightness.

By comparison, an iPhone 12 would typically reach 625 nits of peak brightness.

Apple has been using OLED screens in iPhone for years, and now the iPad Pro is finally catching up.

A traditional LED-backlit LCD display uses backlighting to illuminate the pixels you see on the screen.

But an OLED panel eliminates backlighting because individual pixels can be illuminated on their own – and even turned off entirely.

Not only does this save battery life, it also means an OLED screen can display true black.

This improves screen contrast (darker blacks and brighter whites) as well as the reach of colors on offer.

It should make watching movies on the iPad a much better experience – and be a huge boost for anyone doing serious editing work on their devices.

What do iPhone dots really mean?

Many televisions models They don’t yet have OLED screens and you’ll generally pay a lot more for this type of television.

Then you can grab the iPad by the TV remote to watch the new movie.

IT SEEMS GOOD

Apple also reduced the size of the new iPad Pro models (even thinner than the iPad Nano) in part due to the OLED displays.

It’s currently unclear whether this means the battery size has been reduced (and offset by the OLED screen’s battery savings).

SPEED INCREASE

Powering the device is Apple’s new M4 chip.

This is a custom Apple processor that has never appeared in any other device.

It’s likely to end up on Apple laptops soon, but for now, the only way to get it is inside these new iPad Pro models.

This is a huge leap forward from the M2 chip that previously powered the iPad Pro models.

It’s up to 10x faster than the original iPad Pro, according to Apple.

This time, the front camera has moved to the longer side of the iPad’s frame.

That means it’s designed for video calling in landscape orientation, which makes more sense — especially since the iPad is often docked with a keyboard for many power users.

This means the end of that weird problem where people calling from iPads appear to be looking at the side of the tablet.

Both new models come in Silver and Space Black color options.

MAGIC

There’s also a new Magic Keyboard to match the colors of the latest iPad Pro models.

Apple’s first Magic Keyboard was announced in March 2020, with backlit keys, the ability to charge the iPad, and a floating magnetic mechanism to suspend the iPad like a laptop screen.

Now Apple has swapped the bottom for an aluminum base with a more premium feel.

The size of the trackpad has increased, bringing it more in line with MacBooks.

There is no other device like this. The iPad is powerful, portable and incredibly versatile.

And (finally!) It has a row of function keys on the keyboard.

Additionally, Apple showed off a new Apple Pencil Pro with new pinch and roll functions to adjust how your stylus interacts with the iPad.

The original Apple Pencil launched alongside the first iPad Pro in September 2015.

It was then upgraded to a second-generation model in late 2018, allowing a magnetic connection to an iPad that offered wireless charging.

Then, in October last year, Apple released a third (cheaper) pen with a USB-C connector for charging hidden inside the sliding cover.

Apple showed off the new version of the Pencil, allowing you to “pinch” the pen to quickly access shortcuts (like erasing) in the Procreate drawing app – and “scroll” to change the orientation of your virtual brush.

The announcement comes after a long wait for new iPad models.

The previous launch of Apple’s iPad was on October 26, 2022 – more than a year and a half ago.

The company skipped 2023 for the launch of new iPads, which could see demand soar for the new 2024 models.

IS THE PRICE RIGHT?

Base storage for iPad Pro models has doubled to 256GB.

And the cost is now official: you’ll pay $999 for the 11-inch version and $1,299 for the 13-inch model.

Expert Analysis – SUPER SLATE?

Here’s what Sean Keach, head of technology and science at The Sun, thinks:

It was a long wait – but it was worth it if you’re an iPad fan.

The gap between the iPad and the MacBook is constantly shrinking.

And in a bizarre twist, the iPad Pro now has the advanced Apple M4 chip that isn’t even in a Mac yet.

An iPad Pro won’t work as the primary computing device for everyone, but it’s increasingly easy to see how some people can swap their laptops for these supercharged tablets.

The price has risen dramatically, but the iPad Pro is now more of a laptop replacement than ever before – so this is arguably justified.

Base storage has gotten a big boost, and the iPad Pro is now thinner and more portable.

Even the Magic Keyboard has been updated, making it much more useful as an accessory thanks to the row of function keys.

And if you’re an artist, it’s hard to imagine a more useful accessory than the new Apple Pencil Pro.

We can’t give a full verdict on the new iPad until we’ve tested it, but it looks like a real force to be reckoned with.

Per Sean Keach

That’s up from the old prices of $799 and $1,099 for the previous generation iPad Pro.

The new Magic Keyboard costs $299 and $349 depending on the size you buy, while the Apple Pencil Pro costs $129.

They are available to order and will be available next week.

AIR, LET’S GO!

Apple also made a small update to its iPad Air lineup.

There is now a larger 13-inch size option, just like the Pro series – in addition to the regular 11-inch model.

The front camera has moved to the horizontal edge of the tablet, and there are landscape stereo speakers with spatial audio.

And Apple has updated tablets with its faster M2 processor.

The new Apple Pencil Pro will also work on iPad Air models

The new Apple Pencil Pro will also work with the iPad Air.

They cost $599 and $799 respectively, depending on whether you buy the 11-inch or 13-inch models.

They are available to pre-order today and will officially go on sale next week.
