GOOGLE is rolling out a useful new feature for Android phones – and it’s a big change for texting.

The search engine giant is rolling out a major update to its Google Messages app.

This new feature will allow you to edit text messages you have already sent.

It’s an increasingly common feature on rival chat apps and is finally being tested in Google Messages, as spotted by AssemblyDebug on Twitter, formerly X.

The footprint is that it is currently only being rolled out to a few beta testers.

Google has been working hard on the feature, but now it’s coming to smartphones owned by regular users.

It is reported that the current time limit for you to be able to edit a message is 15 minutes.

After that, it will be impossible to change the text content.

JOIN THE BETA!

Participating in the Google Messages beta test is free and easy.

And it unlocks special upgrades that regular users don’t have access to.

Google explains: “If your Android phone came with Google Messages app, you can test it experimentally characteristics of the application before they are released.

All iPhone and Android users must change settings due to easy ‘stuffing’ attack that takes advantage of a common mistake to hack you

“You can only use one version of the Google Messages app at a time.”

But the company adds: “The beta version may be unstable and have some problems. We do not recommend using the beta on your primary phone.”

To participate in the beta, access the Google Messages app on the Play Store.

Then choose the Become a tester option.

As a beta tester, you will be able to use features that have not yet been released to the public.

Follow the instructions to sign up.

You can return to the app’s Play Store page at any time to end the test.

Google Announcements: “As a beta tester, you’ll be able to use features that haven’t yet been released to the public.

“These resources may be available on the future. We ask that you do not disclose or share the features you are testing until they are publicly available.”

Google Pixel battery tips – the official guide

Here’s Google’s official advice for Pixel owners on how to boost battery power…

Tip 1: Let your phone close apps you’re not using.

Tip 2: Keep your phone and apps updated. Apps become more battery efficient with each new iteration, resolving bugs and crashes that consume unnecessary power.

Tip 3: Lower the brightness. Save your eyes by lowering your phone’s brightness and saving battery. You can also set your phone to the Dark theme, which turns the background black. It consumes less energy and also relieves some eye strain.

Tip 4: Know which apps and activities consume a lot of energy. Pixel users should be aware of which activities drain their batteries the most. Video calls and games are at the top of the list. Users should also shut down apps they have open but are not using.

The main reason for beta testing is to check whether an app update works well.

So if you want to provide feedback, for Google Messages, tap your profile photo and choose Help & feedback > Send feedback.

Then enter your feedback and click submit.

This will share the message, your system information, and your Google Account email address with Google.

BIG EDITION

Of course, Google isn’t the first app maker to add text editing to its apps.

Apple added the ability to edit text messages in iPhone with your iOS 16 update.

You can edit a sent message up to five times in the first 15 minutes.

WhatsApp also added message editing in May 2023.

You will notice that the message has been edited, but it will not show the original text content.

Just like on the iPhone (and the current test version of Google Messages), you can only edit a WhatsApp message for the first 15 minutes.
