OPENAI is releasing a smarter version of its AI chatbot for free to users around the world – and it can view photos and even talk to you like a supercharged Siri.
The new GPT-4o model was announced at the Spring Update, a special event broadcast live for free around the world.

It will be released on Monday and is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Regular ChatGPT runs on GPT 3.5, with an upgrade to the smarter GPT 4 that requires ChatGPT Plus, a paid subscription.
Now GPT-4o will be available on the ChatGPT app and website – and it doesn’t cost a penny.
“What’s special about GPT-4o is that it brings GPT-4-level intelligence to everyone, including our free users,” said Mira Murati, chief technology officer at ChatGPT.
You can upload images and get feedback on those photos based on what the AI sees.
For example, you can share a photo of a plant, a spider, or a landmark to get more information about it.
Or you can ask to translate information from a photo of a sign or menu in a foreign language.
You can even share a selfie with the app and ChatGPT will be able to describe the emotions it thinks you’re feeling.
And it can remember things you’ve said before, even in different conversations.
ChatGPT can also use GPT-4o for voice conversations.
Siri or Alexa-style assistant will speak to you naturally language.
This sci-fi update brings us closer to the movie Her, where humans can build what appear to be close relationships with AI through real spoken conversations.
The app can now also work as a live translator between two people who speak different languages.
A live demonstration of this at the Spring Update event showed ChatGPT impressively translating English to Italian and vice versa.

OpenAI achieved international fame after launching its ChatGPT chatbot in late 2021.
The AI helper started an AI boom and attracted more than 100 million users.
OpenAI – led by CEO Sam Altman – is valued at more than $80 billion and sells users a premium version of its chatbot called ChatGPT Plus.
The company is based in San Francisco and has received billions of dollars in investment from Microsoft.

WHAT IS CHATGPT?
ChatGPT is a language model that can produce text.

If it works correctly, the text will be read in natural language as if it were written by a human.
GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer and describes the type of model that can create AI-generated content.

ChatGPT can hold conversations and even learn from what you say.
It can handle very complicated requests and is even being used by companies to help with their work.
But note that this will not always tell you the truth.

“OpenAI’s conversational GPT-4o is impressive. Responses are very fast, a key feature for establishing user engagement. Responses were also quite seamless in terms of natural voice, including very human nuances and additions. Responses to unstructured questions were particularly realistic. The overall demo was so good that I was wondering if they had manipulated the demo and used a real human voice actor.
“The applications for this technology are endless. Companies using this technology in a call center may suffer from a new problem: customers are unable to disconnect the call because they are enjoying the conversation with the robot!
“An interesting benefit of using voice and video feeds is that OpenAI will acquire huge volumes of completely new data, independent of Internet repositories, free from repetition and falsification, with metadata related to who the user is, why they were calling , who he was. calls and so on.
