Unknowingly, your device may automatically archive unused apps to free up space when downloading a new one.

If this action is checked on your phone, the apps will be removed but your personal data will be saved.

The app icon will also remain on your phone so you can re-download it as long as it’s still available on Google Play.

When you download a new app, you will be alerted to automatically archive apps if you don’t have enough space.

There are four easy steps to set how your phone automatically archives apps.

Open the Play Store app on your phone and go to Settings.

Once in Settings, click on General.

From there, you’ll be able to turn automatic app archiving on or off.

However, Google warned that some of the steps may only work on Android 9 and above.

FREE UPDATE

Google also rolled out a major texting update for Android owners.

The new feature will allow you to edit already sent text messages.

Apple also made the change for its users in early 2023, and it’s finally being tested in Google Messages, as discovered by AssemblyDebug on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The search engine has been working on the editing feature for some time, but it is currently only being rolled out to a few beta testers.

Reportedly, the current time limit for editing a message is 15 minutes.

How to Free Up Storage on Android Phones

There is a quick and easy way to free up storage for Android users.

Open the Play Store app on your phone and go to Settings.

Once in Settings, click on General.

From there, you’ll be able to turn automatic app archiving on or off.

If this action is checked, apps will be removed to save space, but your personal data will be saved.

After that, it will be impossible to change the content of a text.

If you want to be a beta tester for the new update, signing up is free and easy.

It also unlocks exclusive upgrades that regular users don’t have access to.

“If your Android phone came with the Google Messages app, you can test the app’s experimental features before they’re released,” Google explained.

“You can only use one version of the Google Messages app at a time.”

The company added: “The beta version may be unstable and have some issues. We do not recommend using the beta on your primary phone.”

To participate in the beta, access the Google Messages app on the Play Store.

Then choose the Become a tester option and follow the instructions to sign up.
