MOUNTAIN Dew is working with an unlikely collaborator to bring its products to a whole new world.
The company is partnering with Final Fantasy XIV to introduce a new mount to the game called Mountain Zu.
Mounts allow players to travel more quickly across the fictional kingdom of Eorzea and are the main form of transportation.
Mountain Zu is a green variant of the Zu mount, exclusive to players participating in this limited-time promotion.
The promotion is exclusive to the US and runs from May 16 to July 14, 2024.
This coincides with the release of the Dawntrail expansion.
“When I saw the proposal from the team in America and the name Mountain Zu, I thought, ‘Wow, that sounds like a dad joke,’ said Naoki Yoshida, director of FFXIV.
“You would hear that in Japan too.”
Players can purchase promotional units of Mountain Dew at participating stores nationwide.
There are special codes contained on the lids to claim exclusive in-game prizes.
Even if non-North American players get their hands on the units, they won’t be able to enter them in the EU region, for example.
In addition to Mountain Zu, players can also receive the Sparkling Citrus Refreshman item, the Eorzea version of the drink.
If players are interested, they should act quickly as scalpers have been known to sell many of these promotional items at inflated prices.
Remember, as the codes are region-locked, international players should not waste their money if they find someone selling the items online.
This isn’t the first time FFXIV has introduced region-locked collaborations.
Once Upon a KFC Collaboration Exclusive to Japan – who has already returned.
It is not yet available to players in other regions.
Players shared their reactions to the latest collaboration on social media.
“The things I’m going to do Mountain Dew for Mountain Zu,” wrote one person on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Mountain Zu is the funniest video game promo ever,” wrote another person.
“I hate Mountain Zu so much. It’s the perfect level of brilliant, funny and totally stupid,” a third person wrote.
“I want that on my main and all my alternates.”
US Sun has reached out to Mountain Dew and Square Enix for comment.
