GOOGLE fans are bracing for another company service to shut down within weeks.

The search engine giant has been widely ridiculed for relentlessly killing apps and products — and another service is about to enter Google’s graveyard.

Google One VPN will be shut down before the end of next month.

Google One is a subscription service that brings together several benefits in exchange for a fee – from $1.99 / £1.59 per month.

One of the best benefits was the VPN, or Virtual Private Network.

A VPN encrypts your Internet traffic and changes your location, making it harder to spy on what you’re doing online – giving your privacy a big boost.

The Google One version was a very cheap way to get a high-quality VPN – but not for much longer.

END OF THE LINE

“Starting June 20, 2024, Google One VPN will be discontinued,” Google said in a statement.

Google suggested using the alternative VPN from Google Fi wireless phone plans.

And Google Pixel 8 and newer devices also come with a built-in VPN.

If you’re using a Pixel 7, you can also access VPN functionality by updating your software.

But everyone else who wants a VPN will have to shell out for one from another company.

ANOTHER BITES THE DUST

Google has become known for regularly phasing out products, so much so that two websites – Killed By Google and The Google Cemetery – were created to track everything that has been culled.

And fans reacted badly to News that Google One VPN is about to join the list.

In a Reddit thread about the impending doom of the VPN, one user wrote: “Google is annoying. I’m afraid to buy Google products.”

Another joked: “Google cancels 10 times more products than Taylor Swift has ex-boyfriends.”

And one added: “Google drives me crazy sometimes haha.”
