SAMSUNG has revealed what you should (and shouldn’t) do when you see the dreaded “water droplet” icon on your phone.

It usually means water has entered your port – and will usually prevent you from loading.

Most modern Samsung phones are water resistant.

But that doesn’t mean you can plug a charging cable into a wet port without consequences.

Samsung explains: “If there is water in your device’s USB port or moisture is detected that exceeds a set point, charging will not be supported.

“This is a safety measure to protect your phone from damage and corrosion.

“If your device displays a water droplet icon that signifies moisture detection, you should turn off your device and let it dry completely.”

Charging should stop as soon as the moisture detection sensor is triggered.

You will see an error message on the screen that shows a drop of water.

FORGET ABOUT IT?

If you see this, don’t drop your phone in rice because it does more harm than good.

Samsung debunks charging myths: tips to increase battery life

Instead, use Samsung’s “shake” method – just don’t go too far.

Samsung explains: “In this case, disconnect the device from the charger and wipe with a dry cloth.

“Or gently shake the device (5 to 10 times) with the port facing down to release excess moisture.

“Place your phone on a cloth in a well-ventilated area or dry with a fan.”

Treat your phone with care when it's wet – and never apply direct heat

But Samsung warns: “Excessive force or shaking may cause damage to your phone.

“When shaking your device, be gentle.”

STOP THE FALL

If you’re still seeing the water droplet icon, it could be a technical issue.

Samsung charging tip – how to charge better

Here’s Samsung’s official advice…

To get the most out of your smartphone’s battery, you’ll need to charge it properly.

Most smartphones have a lithium-ion battery that lasts longer when charged regularly.

Unlike the nickel batteries used in older phones, lithium-ion batteries work best when kept above 50% charge.

Repeatedly allowing the battery to fully discharge may shorten its lifespan and decrease its overall capacity.

If this happens, you will need to charge the battery more frequently and it may only last a few hours before needing to be charged, for example.

Leaving your phone connected to the charger (when the phone is fully charged) while using it can shorten the battery life if you do it repeatedly.

Try updating your software or restarting your device.

Alternatively, try clearing your phone’s USB cache by following these steps:

  • 1. Go to Settings > Apps > Filter & Sort
  • 2. Toggle Show system apps and tap OK
  • 3. Go to USB Settings > Storage
  • 4. Tap Clear Cache

Samsung also recommends trying another cable or switching to wireless charging while you wait for a repair.
