The Wizz app appears to be experiencing a major outage that is preventing users from accessing the popular messaging service.
The Wizz app has been downloaded more than a million times on Google Play and is ranked 21st in Apple’s social networking category for iPhone downloads.
The platform claims to have been downloaded around 15 million times in total.
Wizz describes itself as “the ultimate online platform for spontaneous and exciting conversations with people from all over the world”.
The app has been removed from both Android It is iOS app stores at the beginning of the year due to online security concerns and reports of sextortion.
It was later reinstated after the developers made several changes, such as in-app warnings when contact information is requested by someone else and mandatory profile verification that aims to verify that the person’s profile photo matches a selfie taken during registration.
However, since Wednesday night US time (early morning in the UK), users have been unable to access the service for several hours.
The long outage caused some to initially think they might have been banned from the app.
Others even went to the effort of deleting and reinstalling it.
“The Wizz app is down for anyone else,” wrote one on X.
“Yeah man I was scared, I thought they banned me,” added another.
“I deleted the app thinking it was a problem on my part, downloaded it again and it won’t let me log in again,” commented a third.
Reports that the Wizz app is down started appearing just after 11:30pm ET/5:30am BST and the app continues to not work.
The company’s website also fails to load, returning an error that says: “504 Gateway Time-out”.
It’s unclear why the Wizz App is down
The reason for the outage is currently unknown.
The Wizz App does not have a service status page and its X/Twitter page has not been updated since February.
