END a call immediately if you notice signs that you are talking to artificial intelligence – or you risk putting yourself in serious danger.

The quality and quantity of scams using AI are growing, and cyber experts say you shouldn’t take any risks.

It could be that criminals are using AI to clone the voices of loved ones or colleagues to trick you into handing over money.

Or maybe they’re calling you to record a few seconds of your voice – long enough for an AI to replicate it.

There are countless uses for AI in cybercrime, according to security expert Simon Newman.

“Artificial Intelligence is increasingly being used by cyber criminals, making phishing attacks more difficult to detect,” Simon, CEO of the London Cyber Resilience Center and member of the International Cyber Expo Advisory Board, told The US Sun.

“Earlier this month, the FBI issued a warning about the growing threat posed by cybercriminals using artificial intelligence.

“And we’ve seen an increase in attacks where cybercriminals impersonate someone the victim knows well, like a family member.”

GOOD DECISION?

AI scams can be extremely convincing – so much so that detecting “errors” can be very difficult.

Instead, you’ll need to pay attention to the context of the call and ask yourself if it makes sense.

If not, hang up.

Simple question that will confuse AI voice clones

“People should be wary of calls from unknown numbers or people who at first glance may appear to be family members asking for money,” explained Simon.

“It’s always best to be cautious and if you have any questions, end the call.”

When requesting confidential information or money over the phone, verify the request by another method.

This is especially important if you were contacted out of the blue – and by an unknown number.

Consider calling the company or person directly at the correct number and checking there.

Do not use any contact details given to you over the phone as they may be fraudulent.

ELECTORAL ARASIAS

It’s not just for scams that AI is being used.

Simon warned that AI will also play a role in the upcoming elections and that users will need to be smart to avoid being fooled by false content.

“We will also have elections in the UK in July and another in the US in November,” Simon added.

“Cybercriminals will likely use these events to impersonate political leaders in order to influence voters.”

Like fake AI calls, deepfakes on the internet can be convincing – so question everything you see, especially if it’s a bold claim or an urgent request.

AI romance scams – BEWARE!

Beware of criminals using AI chatbots to scam you…

The US Sun recently revealed the dangers of AI romance scam bots – here’s what you need to know:

AI chatbots are being used to scam people looking for romance online. These chatbots are designed to mimic human conversations and can be difficult to detect.

However, there are some warning signs that can help you identify them.

For example, if the chatbot responds very quickly and with generic responses, it is probably not a real person.

Another clue is if the chatbot tries to transfer the conversation from the dating platform to a different app or website.

Furthermore, if the chatbot asks for personal information or money, it is definitely a scam.

It’s important to stay vigilant and exercise caution when interacting with strangers online, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Be skeptical of anyone who seems too perfect or too eager to move the relationship forward.

By being aware of these warning signs, you can protect yourself from falling victim to AI chatbot scams.
