There’s seemingly no end to the iPhone updates coming out of Apple headquarters — but have you caught them all?
There are some tricks and details you might have missed from Apple’s big WWDC 2024 event.
The iOS 18 update coming later this year will bring major improvements to your iPhone.
And even better, download and installation are completely free.
Now, the update probably won’t arrive until mid-September, so you’ll have to wait a while before you get it.
In the meantime, here are some fun things characteristics that you may have missed.
LOCK SCREEN SWITCH
It’s hard not to have heard about Apple’s changes to the Home screen and Lock screen.
You will be able to change the color of application icons – and even place them anywhere on the screen.
And for the lock screen, you can finally swap out the flashlight and camera buttons for other options.
What you may not have heard, however, is that you can have different buttons for each lock screen you set up.
So you could have a lock screen with a camera and flashlight – and then another with two completely different buttons.
GENMOJI SHARING
Apple Intelligence is bringing a large number of AI updates to the iPhone.
But it’s no surprise that one of the most talked about changes is Genmoji.
This lets you create custom emojis that don’t exist, based on what you’re chatting about.
You can send them to friends and even use them for quick Tapback replies.
But there’s an important trick to note: If you send the Genmoji as a sticker, the recipient can save it and use it too.
SUPER SATURDAY
An awesome (and potentially life-saving) update in iOS 18 adds a feature that lets you send texts via satellite.
Devices compatible with iOS 18
Not all iPhone models are getting iOS 18 – but these are:
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
- iPhone SE (3rd generation)
- iPhone XR
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15
- iPhone 15 Plus
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
It’s perfect for when you’re not getting regular cell signal.
Of course, it will feel a little slower than normal texting because you’re waiting for a satellite to pass overhead – so it could take seconds or a minute, depending on your luck.
But it’s important to note two things about the feature.
First, you won’t be able to send images or videos – but you will be able to share text messages, emoji, and even Tapback reactions.
And secondly, there is no limit to the number of texts you can send using this method.
CLEAR VISION
Another useful feature that deserves more attention is the ability to hide screenshots in the photo grid.
Screenshots can easily clog up your Photos app, but some are important — which means you won’t want to delete them.
But no one wants a grid full of screenshots, so now you’ll be able to apply a filter that hides them.
So you can hide them from your main photo album without having to delete them.
And you can still find them in the Screenshots folder even when the filter is active.
SERIOUSLY GOOD SIRI
Finally, there’s a new way to activate Siri.
You can simply double-tap the bottom of the keyboard to open the Siri keyboard.
This will allow you to quickly interact with the smart assistant, including a function to type in Siri to ask questions.
