IF you’re always losing your Roku TV remote, there are two tricks that can help you.
It can be a nightmare when you can’t control your TV – but don’t panic because there are some easy fixes.
FIND THE LOST REMOTE
One option is RokuThe Lost Remote Finder trick.
It simply involves making the remote make a noise so you can find it.
And if you’re wondering how it makes the noise happen, it works via voice command.
“A feature called Lost Remote Locator can help you locate your compatible Roku remote on next time it gets tucked behind a couch cushion or lost somewhere else in your home,” explains Roku.
“When you trigger the feature from a hands-free voice command, the free Roku mobile app for iOS and Android, your Roku streaming device, or your TV with Roku OS, your remote plays a sound so that you can find it quickly.
The feature is compatible with controls with built-in speakers, such as the Roku Voice Remote Pro.
Just look for small speaker mounts on the back of the remote (preferably before you lose it).
The voice command is just: “Hey Roku, where’s my remote?”
This will make your remote play a sound for up to 60 seconds.
Once you find it again, you can press any button to stop it.
On some Roku devices – like the Roku Ultra – there is a physical lost remote location button on the top side of the player.
VIRTUALLY THERE
Probably an even more practical solution is to use Roku’s virtual remote.
This turns your smartphone into a TV remote.
It’s best to set this up in advance so it’s ready whenever you need it.
Just install the mobile app, log in, and follow the instructions to connect it to your Roku streaming device.
You can even connect headphones to your phone and listen to TV privately through the app.
The Roku Channel – what you need to know
Here’s the summary…
The Roku Channel is a streaming app available on multiple devices.
It offers more than 400 live TV channels.
And it promises more than 80,000 movies and TV shows on demand.
Roku says the app is available at:
- Roku streaming devices
- Compatible Samsung Smart TVs
- Compatible Amazon Fire TV Devices
- Website TheRokuChannel.com
- Roku mobile apps (iOS and Android)
Roku notes that the app is only available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It’s also available in Mexico, but only on Roku devices.
Importantly, you can also use this virtual remote to trigger the lost remote location feature in settings.
Just go to Settings > Remotes and devices > Remotes > [Choose Remote] > Find remote.
You can also do this directly in the mobile app by tapping the three dots to the right of the connected device in the app – and choosing Ping Remote.
This will trigger the feature as long as the remote is within Wi-Fi range and the batteries are not dead.
