ROKU is updating its TV with new features – and you may well have missed them.
In fact, there’s even a new Easter egg on your screensaver to keep an eye out for.
Roku is currently rolling out updates for devices in the US, adding new TV features.
And there’s one big change movie fans will want to notice in Roku City – the popular screensaver built into the streaming device.
“Roku City is TV’s largest and most beloved digital hub, averaging more than 40 million active accounts every month,” Roku explained.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that we are bringing TV and movie cars to the streets of Roku City.
“From an ice cream truck to a secret agent’s favorite sports car, these dynamic additions will add a new layer of Easter egg fun to your screen.
“The vehicles will change, keeping you guessing and bringing your favorite city to life like never before.”
According to Roku’s internal data, two-thirds of Roku users would visit Roku City if it were offered.
In the meantime, you’ll want to keep an eye out to see if you can spot any iconic movie and TV cars.
But that’s not all: there are a wide variety of changes coming to Roku devices right now.
FULL LIST OF ROKU UPDATES REVEALED
The first is the new Backdrops feature.
This gives you a wide selection of free artwork that you can use to make your TV fit in better with the rest of your room.
Includes “famous classics, museum collections, abstract designs and more.”
You can also upload your own artwork or photos to display on your TV.
Next up is the Roku Smart Picture feature, designed to give you the best picture quality without having to change settings.
Roku explains: “As apps stream, Roku Smart Picture adjusts backlight, uniformity, and colors based on the type of TV.
“Additionally, Roku Smart Picture automatically optimizes brightness and colors and selects the best picture mode – i.e. sports, movies, vivid and standard – for the content you’re watching, giving you a better TV viewing experience .”
There are some changes to navigation and discovery on Roku as well.
For example, you’ll start seeing IMDb ratings on TV shows and movies across the platform.
And a new row within What to Watch will feature IMDb’s highest-rated titles.
Trailers will also appear on entertainment detail pages for both movies and TV shows.
And there’s also an update to the Save List: “Now, when the price of a TV show or movie in your Save List drops or when new seasons or episodes become available, we’ll let you know with badge updates directly in the entertainment tile, bringing you titles that might be at the bottom of your list, at the very beginning,” Roku explained.
Finally, you will be able to enjoy Roku Mobile app updates.
There’s a new navigation bar with five universal tabs: Home, Search, Remote, Devices, and Account.
You’ll be able to scroll through the new lineup of most searched for TV and movies, which is based on what other streamers are watching.
The Roku Channel – what you need to know
Here’s the summary…
