AMAZON has announced the return of a beloved smart device, leaving many fans perplexed.

The retail giant teased the launch of the 2024 Echo Spot in a promotional video earlier this week. The alarm clock displays the time, weather and song names next to your bed.

It also has integration with Amazon Alexa, allowing you to request music and information from the company’s exclusive voice assistant.

The original model hit the market in 2017, but was discontinued two years later.

The renewed Echo Spot is almost identical to the old design, except for the front face, which is divided between a screen and a speaker.

Potential buyers flocked to Reddit, where one question drowned out the rest: “Will there be ads?”

Several users commented that the endless stream of ads was the reason they discarded their Echo devices.

“The big question for me will be ‘does it ever show ads’, where I interpret ‘ads’ broadly to include any content I didn’t ask it to show,” wrote one Redditor.

“As we all know, Echo Shows will display ads for a variety of things and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to disable this behavior entirely.”

Another user proclaimed that the retailer has “clearly demonstrated” its willingness to “serve ads on any device with a screen.”

“As much as ads can be disabled, hidden, unchecked, or whatever you want to call it, I shouldn’t have to do that, and Amazon You can reactivate them at any time, and this happens frequently,” the user wrote.

“That’s why I refuse to have any Amazon devices with screens.”

Yet another user accused the company of “making all Echo devices buggy” as an incentive to buy the new device.

“It will not work, Amazon“, declared the internet user.

“It just tells me that your products don’t work and that I shouldn’t have them in my home.”

However, several loyal fans revealed that they had already purchased the device, just hours after it hit the market. Amazon site.

“I ordered it for overnight delivery,” reported a Redditor before promising to replace “between two and four Echo Show 5 units” with the product.

However, this promise came under two conditions.

“The big question for me is this: will this have ads in the US and will it be possible to maintain screen time without ever switching to another screen randomly?” the user wrote.

The new Echo Spot was launched to coincide with Prime Day, the annual sales event for Prime members that sees deep discounts on a variety of products, including electronics.

It’s currently on sale for $44.99 – about a 40% reduction from the listing price.

What is Alexa?

If you’ve never heard of Alexa, here’s what you need to know…

  • Alexa is a “smart” personal assistant developed by Amazon.
  • You can find it on a number of different devices, including Amazon’s Echo speakers.
  • Alexa responds to voice commands and can respond to you.
  • It can perform thousands of different tasks, including telling you about the news or the weather.
  • But it can also do more complex things, like ordering a pizza or arranging a taxi pickup on Uber.
  • To activate Alexa, you need to say “Alexa” to an Amazon Echo speaker.
  • Because it is powered by artificial intelligence, Alexa is increasingly intelligent.
  • Alexa will also get more used to your voice and better understand what you want her to do over time.
