SAMSUNG Galaxy users can enjoy a built-in feature that optimizes device performance and saves battery.
Galaxy smartphones come with a tool called Device Care that provides quick access to check battery life, storage, memory, and security settings.
Device Care can also run automatic “optimization checks” on your phone to identify apps that use excessive power, delete unnecessary files, and close applications that are running in the background.
You can do a check yourself by going to “Settings” and tapping “Device Care,” which will run a diagnostic on your device.
The feature will give you a score out of 100 – the higher the score, the better optimized your device will be. Click “Optimize now” to complete the process.
You can also schedule your device to automatically optimize once a day. After going to “Device Care”, tap the three dots and tap “Advanced”.
Just toggle the switch to turn on “Auto Optimize.”
You can check your battery usage to see what applications have drained most of the energy. You can also set a different power mode on your device to save energy throughout the day.
Under “Device Care,” tap “Battery” and then “Battery Usage” to see a summary.
Return to the “Battery” menu and select “Power Mode” to customize your device settings. There are four modes to choose from.
High performance maximizes screen brightness and resolution, and in turn consumes more battery.
The Optimized setting provides the “recommended balance between performance and battery life,” according to the manufacturer.
Medium power saver extends battery life by limiting certain functions, while maximum power saver conserves as much power as possible.
Alternatively, you can tap the button to activate adaptive energy saving mode and set the mode based on your usage patterns.
You can also control which applications run in the background when not in use.
Go to the “Battery” menu and select “Application Power Management” to analysis pre-programmed settings.
Adaptive battery mode will limit battery usage and will be limited to apps that you don’t use often.
Users can put certain applications to to sleep after they have not been used for a while and prevent others from being put into use to sleep.
There’s even an option to set “deep sleep apps,” which will never run in the background and only work when you open them.
Samsung also offers an easy way to free up storage space by deleting rarely used apps and unnecessary documents with just a few taps.
Go to “Storage” under “Device Care” and check the available categories, which include “Documents” and “Pictures”.
Select the items you want to delete and tap “Delete” twice when prompted to confirm.
Samsung charging tip – how to charge better
Here’s Samsung’s official advice…
To get the most out of your smartphone’s battery, you’ll need to charge it properly.
Most smartphones have a lithium-ion battery that lasts longer when charged regularly.
Unlike the nickel batteries used in older phones, lithium-ion batteries work best when kept above 50% charge.
Repeatedly allowing the battery to fully discharge may shorten its lifespan and decrease its overall capacity.
If this happens, you will need to charge the battery more frequently and it may only last a few hours before needing to be charged, for example.
Leaving your phone connected to the charger (when the phone is fully charged) while using it can shorten the battery life if you do it repeatedly.
If background app activity is slowing down your device, you can quickly free up memory.
Tap “Memory” under “Device Care” and click “Clean Now.”
If you want to exclude any apps from the cleaning cycle, you can remove them manually before this step.
Optimize device performance by enabling automatic settings in “Advanced” under “Device Care.”
You can restart your phone at a certain time, optimize your settings when you’re not using your phone to save battery, and automatically check your phone once a day.
