SAMSUNG users can prevent their login information from falling into the wrong hands in just a few easy steps.

The tech giant has adopted a new, more secure login method known as passkeys.

Unlike a typical username and password combination, a passkey requires your face or fingerprint – unique physical identifiers called biometrics.

Compared to traditional passwords, access keys are highly secure and more difficult, if not almost impossible, to crack.

Instead of being stored on a server, passkeys are stored in a mobile app called Samsung Pass.

This means that the phone itself is needed to authenticate your identity. All you need to do is use your fingerprint.

To harness the power of Samsung Pass, start by opening any password-supported app.

Then log in and go to “Profile”, then “Account”, followed by “Set password”.

Make sure your Samsung Pass account is selected before tapping “Create” and saving the passkey.

You can also use your Samsung password to log in to another device, such as a personal computer or tablet.

Try logging in with a password on your computer or tablet and select “Other device”. Using your Galaxy phone, scan the QR code on the screen.

Select “Use password to log in”. Once the access key is authenticated, the login process is complete – that easy.

Samsung Security Update July 2024: Everything You Need to Know

Samsung isn’t the only tech giant adopting more secure logins either.

Amazon announced in October 2023 that it would allow users to access their accounts with biometrics or a PIN code.

And passkeys aren’t the only option. If you prefer to log in using traditional credentials, there are ways to make this information more secure.

Passkeys are stored directly on your phone rather than on a server, meaning the device itself is needed to confirm your identity – a secure defense against hackers

Start by increasing your passwords and avoiding familiar words, phrases, or dates like birthdays.

Remember: If your passwords are easy to remember, they will likely be easy for a hacker to guess.

Don’t use the same password on multiple sites as this gives hackers easy access to multiple accounts in the event of a data breach.

PASSWORD RULES – DON’T BREAK THEM

Here are some important tricks to follow, as revealed by Keeper Security…

  1. Be sure to use a combination of upper and lower case letters. It is much easier to “crack” a password if it only uses lowercase letters.
  2. Never include personal details such as your date of birth, address and certainly not your name.
  3. Make sure each password is at least 12 characters long. This will significantly increase the time it would take a hacker to crack your login.
  4. Include symbols whenever you can. Not all services allow this, but if you can add question marks, exclamation marks, hashes, and forward slashes, your password will be much more secure.
  5. Make sure to use varying and non-sequential numbers. So instead of having 1234 at the end of your password, mix them up and use a random order.
  6. Avoid, whenever possible, using words found in the dictionary in your password.

Security experts recommend a minimum of 12 characters using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

You can also use a password generator in conjunction with a password manager.

This allows you to randomly strengthen your password and store it in a safe place – no memorization required.
