META is launching an AI-powered chatbot that allows users to “clone” themselves – but some fans insist it’s the latest in a list of useless tools.

The tech giant is launching AI Studio, which allows users to create digital personas powered by artificial intelligence.

Characters can be shared on applications such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Users can create avatars based on a personalized character, such as a chef or interior designer, or “AI Creator,” billed as “an extension of you.”

The latter is tailor-made for social media influencers, who can use AI to answer common questions from their followers.

The chatbots are powered by Meta’s Llama 3.1 AI, considered the most advanced model yet.

AI Studio is available exclusively in the United States, but is expected to expand to other countries in the coming months.

And although all AI responses are “clearly labeled for transparency,” some users are frustrated by the never-ending push to adopt AI.

Several users took to Reddit to react to the release, with some claiming

“No one asked for this,” professed one user. “However, we ask that comment moderation be consistent and rational.”

“Maybe they can get me to actually be helped by someone with account problems,” joked another user.

goal CEO Mark Zuckerberg teased AI Studio in a video last month, announcing that users would “start seeing AIs from their favorite creators and interest-based AIs in the coming weeks.” Instagram.”

“We are still in the beginning and in the first beta version of these AIs, so we will continue working to improve them and make them available to more people soon,” said the technology mogul.

While the tools are still in development, that hasn’t stopped users from complaining about issues with imaging and disappearing access to characteristics.

goalThe company’s latest venture is seen as an attempt to compete with companies like Character.AI and Replika, which already provide themed chatbots.

Zuckerberg’s announcement came on the same day that Character.AI revealed the ability to chat with AI avatars via a call.

What are the arguments against AI?

Artificial intelligence is a highly controversial issue and it seems like everyone has a position on it. Here are some common arguments against this:

Job Loss – Some industry experts argue that AI will create new niches in the job market, and as some roles are eliminated, others will appear. However, many artists and writers insist that the argument is ethical, since generative AI tools are being trained on their work and would not work otherwise.

Ethics – When AI is trained on a dataset, much of the content is taken from the internet. This is almost always, if not exclusively, done without notifying the people whose work is being performed.

Privacy – Content from personal social media accounts can be fed into language models to train them. Concerns have emerged as Meta unveils its AI assistants on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. There have been legal challenges to this issue: in 2016, legislation was created to protect personal data in the EU, and similar laws are in the works in the United States.

Misinformation – As AI tools extract information from the Internet, they may take things out of context or experience hallucinations that produce absurd responses. Tools like Copilot on Bing and Google’s generative search AI are always at risk of getting things wrong. Some critics argue this could have lethal effects – such as AI prescribing erroneous health information.
