STOP texting so slowly – it’s hurtful and unnecessary.
You’ve been texting for years. Maybe even decades. But there are some errors that you need to fix now.
If you have one iPhone and you’re not typing at the speed of light, well there are some perfect ones iOS tricks you need to learn. Tap Tips if desired.
IPHONE TYPING TIP #1 – SLIDE TO TYPE
First, stop typing individual letters.
Go to Settings, General, Keyboard and turn on Swipe to type.
Then, to type a word, simply tap the initial letter and quickly drag your finger between all the letters in that word.
Bam. Instant word. It’s a huge update and much faster.
IPHONE TYPING TIP #2 – QUICK SWITCH
Secondly, never enter your email or home address. It’s a huge waste of time.
Go to Settings, General, Keyboard and click Text Replacement.
This lets you set up text shortcuts that turn short sentences into long chunks of text.
So you can save two @ symbols as your email address to quickly enter it.
Or save and add! to access your home or work address. This is much faster for long stretches of text that you want to type regularly.
IPHONE TYPING TIP #3 – HIDDEN TRACKPAD
Okay, third. Let’s say you wrote some text, but you noticed a typo in the middle of a word or further down a website link in Safari’s address bar.
Trying to tap a specific spot can be difficult, so just use the secret trackpad.
Hold your finger down on the space bar and voila, trackpad! Slide it to place the cursor exactly where you need it. This is much more efficient.
IPHONE TYPING TIP #4 – SHRINK!
Fourth, use the mini keyboard.
Texting with one hand is a real pain, especially if you’re holding onto a pole on a bus or train, or wielding a steaming cup of coffee. Delicious, but a texting nightmare.
Open the keyboard and hold your finger on the globe or emoji icon.
Then press the small keyboards with the left or right arrow keys.
This will make your iPhone go into one-handed mode with a small and very powerful keyboard. You’ll be texting one-handed much faster this way.
IPHONE TYPING TIP #5 – QUICK NUMBERS
Fifth, there is a way to enter numbers faster.
If you’re trying to enter a single digit, you don’t need to tap 123, press a number, and tap ABC again.
Instead, just tap and hold 123 and drag your finger to your chosen number – and release.
It’s magical and a little faster.
iPhone Tricks to Try Today
Here are some of the best…
- Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the spacebar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, allowing you to move words and sentences more easily
- Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapping squares in the bottom right corner and press close all tabs
- Delete many photos quickly – Long press a photo and drag your finger diagonally across Photos to select multiple images at once and click delete
- Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of the home screen, tap the bar and enter a currency (like €200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
- Check if you need a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and check the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally, a battery is considered exhausted when its capacity is reduced to 80%. If it’s below, you can buy a battery change from Apple
- Move apps faster – Hold an app until it starts to jiggle, then (while holding) tap other apps, making them stack so you can move them more easily
IPHONE TYPING TIP #6 – QUICK STOP
And finally, drop the full stop (or period, for the British).
If you go to Settings, then General, then Keyboard, you can enable the period shortcut.
This allows you to double-tap the space bar to insert a period followed by a space.
It’s a fraction of a second faster than the other way around, but it will speed you up over time.
If you combine all five of these tips, you will become a true texting powerhouse.
