What’s Next When Kamala Harris Picks Running Mate

Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign is gearing up for a turbulent week after she officially named Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate — just weeks after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

Here’s what’s next for the duo as they kick off the campaign together:

Harris and Walz will appear together at her first campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, August 6.

It will be the first of seven swing states that Harris is expected to travel to over five days — five of which she and Biden turned blue in 2020.

These states include:

  • Pennsylvania
  • Wisconsin
  • Michigan
  • Georgia
  • Arizona
  • North Caroline
  • Nevada

The stretch is expected to be one of the heaviest weeks of campaign-related travel this election cycle.

After her weeklong cross-country trip, Harris and her running mate will head to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, Aug. 19-22.

This is where Harris is expected to officially accept the party’s nomination and define exactly where she and her vice presidential candidate stand on a plethora of issues affecting the American people.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was also quick to express his support for the ticket.

Shapiro was the favorite to be Harris’ running mate until he nominated Walz this morning.

The governor of Pennsylvania told his supporter on X that his job is with the state and not as vice president.

“Over the next 90 days, I hope to travel across the Commonwealth to unite Pennsylvanians in support of my friends Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and defeat Donald Trump,” he wrote.

Shapiro confirmed that he was part of the vice presidential selection process and had the honor of speaking with Harris about her vision for the country.

He will attend Harris’ rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday alongside his new running mate.

Harris and Walz will campaign together for the first time in a swing state that they will need to secure in November to take the White House.
