ELON Musk and Donald Trump have the perfect marriage of convenience and will both benefit from the interview on Monday night, an expert says.

The live event on X is likely to generate controversy after Musk endorsed Trump for the upcoming presidential election last month.

Social media consultant Matt Navarra told The US Sun that Trump and Musk are working together in a “marriage of convenience.”

“I think the reason for this change by Musk and Trump is that they both urgently need each other – or something from each other,” Navarra said.

“I think Trump needs the audience and engagement that X can provide from the distribution and reach that X gives him.

“And I think Musk wants to make sure he’s aligned with the potential winning candidate in the next presidential election.

“So I think it’s a marriage of convenience, to be honest, between the two of them.”

The interview comes as Trump faces Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November presidential election.

Navarra said the social media event will make headlines — which is exactly what Musk might want.

“I think we will undoubtedly have some very quote-worthy headlines that will certainly fill Elon Musk’s ego,” said the expert.

“But in terms of the future of X, Elon Musk and Trump, I think the person who will benefit most from this interview will be Trump, because of the reach the platform has and the engagement and headlines it will create for Donald Trump.”

The X interview comes as Trump was previously suspended from the platform, then known as Twitter, following the insurrection at the Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021.

Despite Musk restoring Trump’s access to X a month after purchasing the platform, Trump has posted on Truth Social over the past few years.

However, before Monday’s impromptu interview, Trump returned to the platform to promote the event.

“I guess you could call them a right-wing power couple,” Navarra said.

“And I think they will produce something that will undoubtedly create statements of intent or dramatic quotes that will cause controversy and provoke all kinds of debate and fury.”

What to know about the interview

Elon Musk will interview Donald Trump in a live broadcast on X on Monday, August 12th.

Trump first teased the interview in a post on Truth Social.

“ON MONDAY NIGHT I’LL BE DOING A BIG INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK – Details to follow!” Trump wrote last Tuesday.

Musk confirmed on Sunday that the interview would air live on X at 8pm ET.

“This is impromptu and has no subject limits, so it should be a lot of fun!” he said.

The Tesla CEO then asked X users to post questions and comments for the former president to address in the chat.

The interview will be hosted on Trump’s account, @realDonaldTrump.

Viewers can log in to Trump’s account at 8 p.m. to follow the conversation live.

X COULD BREAK

The social media consultant warned that X could crash during the interview, similar to the platform’s crash during Ron DeSantis’ live announcement that he was running for president last year.

“I’m sure the interview numbers and engagement will possibly set records, but they will certainly be extremely high,” Navarra said.

“That’s if, of course, X doesn’t break, because we’ve seen past examples of X conducting high-profile interviews on its platform and the infrastructure and platform crumbling under the pressure of the number of users trying to use it.

“This just shows how much X still remains in disrepair, even after Elon Musk invested money in it,” he criticized.

Musk promised the live event would be fun.

“This is impromptu and has no subject limits, so it should be a lot of fun!” he he wrote in X.

He also asked X users to share questions and comments on the post for Trump to respond to during the event.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s complicated relationship

Former President Donald Trump and Telsla CEO Elon Musk’s relationship got off to a rocky start, but the two have since reconciled, with Musk fully endorsing Trump and interviewing him on X Spaces on August 12.

In 2022, Elon Musk and Donald Trump publicly feuded on X, then still known as Twitter.

Trump called Musk a liar and a “bullfighter” during a rally in Alaska.

“Elon is not going to buy Twitter,” Trump said at the time.

“You know, he said the other day, ‘I’ve never voted for a Republican.’ I said, ‘I didn’t know that – you told me you voted for me, so he’s another idiot artist, but he’s not going to believe that.’

In response to Trump’s criticism, the SpaceX founder responded back.

“I don’t hate this man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat and sail off into the sunset,” Musk posted.

Musk also bought X months later.

The X owner said he had previously voted mostly Democratic since becoming a U.S. citizen in 2002.

However, when the 2024 elections arrived, he supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump’s rival.

“My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist,” Musk wrote on X in 2022.

“I expected this to happen [be] the case for the Biden administration, but we are disappointed so far.”

His change in political parties can be attributed to his falling relationship with President Joe Biden, who did not invite Musk to the 2021 White House electric vehicle summit.

Despite past problems, Trump and Musk’s relationship changed in March after they met at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump was also previously against electric vehicles, but has since changed his stance.

“I’m for electric cars,” he said at a rally earlier this month.

“I have to be, because Elon supported me so strongly. So I have no choice.”

Following the assassination attempt at Trump’s rally in July, Musk announced his support for the former president.

“I fully support President Trump and hope for his speedy recovery,” Musk wrote on X after the shooting.

During a recent press conference, Trump praised Musk.

“I respect Elon a lot. He respects me,” he said.

“Elon, more than anyone I know, he loves this country. He loves the concept of this country, but like me, he says this country is in big trouble, it’s in tremendous danger.”
