  • OX’s Spaces malfunctioned on Monday, before Elon Musk’s live interview with Donald Trump.

  • Technical difficulties remind Ron DeSantis‘disastrous campaign launch on X last year.

  • Musk later acknowledged the technical difficulties and stated that there had been a DDOS attack.

Elon Musk live stream interview with former president Donald Trump faced technical difficulties before the conversation even began on Monday.

Musk-owned social media platform malfunctioned when thousands of X users tried to join the live stream Space before the discussion, which was scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

The platform has not worked well for many users, although Musk said on Sunday that driven various system scaling tests before the conversation.

Several X users responded, saying they were I can’t participate the discussion. Some people received a message that said, “This space is not available.”

About 20 minutes after the discussion began, Musk recognized technical difficulties, saying: “There appears to be a massive DDOS attack on X.”

“Working to shut it down,” Musk wrote. “In the worst case, we will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later.”

Representatives for the X and Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Musk said the discussion would continue with the “lowest number of concurrent listeners” at 8:30 p.m. ET, and he would post the unedited audio immediately afterward.

The number of listeners in Space quickly began to exceed 900,000. But at 8:41 p.m. ET, the conversation had not yet begun.

The technical complications went back to Musk’s work disastrous campaign interview with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis last year. DeSantis’ attempt to launch his 2024 presidential bid was delayed nearly 30 minutes after X — then Twitter — crashed while trying to handle nearly 500,000 listeners.

On Sunday, Musk live-streamed games twice in preparation for the discussion with Trump, garnering 2.1 million views and 1.3 million views, respectively.

Musk announced the conversation with Trump as an “improvised” discussion, “with no subject limits”.

In previous elections, Musk has made an effort to stay out of politics. But Tesla’s CEO has taken an increasingly rightward turn in recent months, officially endorsing Trump for president in July.

Since purchasing Twitter in October 2021 and turning it into X, Musk raised his political stanceoften sharing right-wing theories and fighting what he calls the “awake mind virus.”
