Bombs made in the UK will be used by US fighters as part of plans to bolster Ukraine’s air force.
The first of the allies’ long-promised F-16 fighter jets is expected to arrive in July.
The UK has promised to arm the jets with Paveway IV bombs.
They are guided by lasers and GPS, weigh 500 pounds and cost £30,000 each.
The weapons – used in conflicts in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and Yemen – are part of a package of 1,600 bombs and missiles announced by Britain last week.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the F-16 deal as a “groundbreaking moment” in the war against Russia.
Defense Secretary Grant Shapps told The Sun’s World At War online programme: “We were the first to deploy anti-tank missiles.
“The first to send main battle tanks, the first to send missiles with permission to use them properly.
“And now we will be the first to provide glide bombs for these (F-16) aircraft.”
Meanwhile, Russian soldiers murdered at least 15 Ukrainian prisoners after they surrendered, Human Rights Watch researchers said yesterday.
