WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration on Friday announced an additional $275 million in military aid for Ukraine like Kyiv struggle to hold on advances of Russian troops in the Kharkiv region.

State Secretary Anthony Blinken said the package, which was presented Thursday by two U.S. officials, “is part of our efforts to help Ukraine repel Russia’s attack near Kharkiv.”

“Assistance from previous packages has already reached the front lines and we will transfer this new assistance as quickly as possible so that the Ukrainian military can use it to defend its territory and protect the Ukrainian people,” Blinken said in a statement.

“The United States and the international coalition we have assembled will continue to support Ukraine in defending its freedom,” he said.

The package includes High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, ammunition, and 155mm and 105mm high demand artillery rounds. Additional items in the aid package include Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems; anti-tank mines, tactical vehicles, small arms and ammunition for these weapons.

With this latest package, the US has now provided nearly $51 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
