So what happens from here? Trump, 77, faces up to 136 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 11, four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The judge could very well put Trump in the notorious Riker’s Island prison. He could also order him to stay home, which could mean he could not attend his own party’s convention.

So before you believe Trump’s chances are over, know this: The American public, not blind partisans but those fighting inflation, gas prices and crime, see through this charade.

As it stands now, Trump leads, on average, in every major swing state in the country. He leads in almost every national poll. And the overwhelming majority of Americans dislike political persecution no way.

How do we know this? Just look at the last two sitting presidents to be impeached: Bill Clinton in 1999 and Donald Trump in 2019.

In Clinton’s case, there was a popular president who had been re-elected quite easily in 1996 and who was on his way to a Ronald Reagan-level legacy.

Peace. Prosperity. Potentially eight years of economic growth, almost no conflict abroad and a feeling of normality.

Slick Willie was about to be considered the greatest president of all time.

Instead, he had an affair with a White House intern named Monica Lewinsky, which became public in 1998 via the Drudge Report.

There was her blue dress with ample “evidence”. There were cigars. And poetry from the acting president to the young intern. What a mess.

But here’s the thing: Clinton’s poll numbers only soared after her affair with Lewinsky engrossed the American people on a daily basis.

Republicans, in retrospect, overreacted when they accused Clinton of trying to cover up the affair.

Result: Clinton emerged with nearly 70 percent approval, an all-time high for any two-term president since the election began. Why? Because a solid majority of Americans saw his impeachment as political.

As for Trump, his numbers also increased after his first impeachment through a phone call he had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding Trump’s request for an investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden for shady business dealings in that country.

Five years ago, Trump’s numbers also improved, although not as much as Clinton’s, but still in a positive direction. Why? Because the public saw impeachment as something political before the presidential elections.

Here’s a prediction: In polls conducted after the guilty verdict, expect to see Donald Trump’s numbers only rise as Biden continues to struggle.

What are Donald Trump’s next steps?

A jury in New York City found Donald Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide hush money he paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

The first former US president to be convicted of a crime, but remains the Republican favorite in his bid for the White House against Joe Biden.

Trump’s sentencing date is set for July 11, 2024, however, his lawyers may attempt to delay this until after the November 5 presidential election, which is unlikely to happen without good cause.

Trump, 77, can still speak to the press, travel out of state and continue his presidential campaign.

His guilty verdict also does not automatically make him a convicted felon.

The charges against Trump are Class E felonies, the least serious category under New York law, with each charge carrying a maximum penalty of four years in prison.

Trump could also pay fines and restitution as part of his sentence or face probation.

Judge Juan Merchan said he is weighing several factors regarding Trump’s sentence, including his age and lack of criminal history, however, the former president’s actions during the trial could also play a role in the judge’s decision. .

A guilty verdict does not prevent Trump from running for president.

The US Constitution requires potential US presidents to be:

  • Native American citizens
  • At least 35 years old
  • Live in the country for at least 14 years

Criminals are not prevented from holding office.

Why? Because this conviction in Lower Manhattan will also be seen as political before the presidential election.

“This is far from over,” Trump declared after the verdict.

“The real verdict will be given on November 5th by the people who know what happened here.”

Betting markets are betting on Trump.

Polymarket, for example, a major gambling website, has been offering odds on who will win the US presidential election.

On April 18, when Trump’s trial began, Biden was seen as a two-point favorite. But after Trump’s verdict was released, Trump was classified as a 18 point favorite.

The boomerang effect has officially begun.

Democrats will celebrate tonight and all weekend. They should read the tea leaves.

Because in doing so, they only helped make Donald Trump president once again in 2015.
