The Congressional Black Caucus on Tuesday condemned comments made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., accusing Democrats of “worshipping” George Floyd, a Black man who was killed four years ago at the hands of Minneapolis police.

“This is disturbing even for @RepMTG,” the caucus said he wrote in a post on X. “George Floyd did not deserve to die, and a member of Congress should have the decency to recognize his humanity.”

The caucus’ comments came after Greene posted a video on X of her answering questions from NBC News in the halls of the Capitol about her defense of former President Donald Trump. In the video, Greene described Floyd as a “convicted criminal” who Democrats “still adore.” This came during a rebuke from Rep. Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland, who suggested during a congressional hearing on the origins of COVID that some Republicans “blindly worship” convicted criminals, days after Trump was convicted of 34 counts of forgery. business records.

Addressing Dr. Anthony Fauci, who appeared to give testimony before the panel on Monday, Raskin apologized to his Republican colleagues, who he said were treating him “like a convicted felon.”

“In fact, you’d probably like them to treat you like a convicted felon. They treat convicted criminals with love and admiration. Some of them blindly worship convicted criminals,” Raskin said.

“We have Jamie Raskin there accusing us of worshiping Trump. Worshiping a ‘convicted criminal,’” Greene told NBC News in the clip.

When pressed on the fact that Trump will be a convicted felon, Greene said, “Well, yes, George Floyd too and everyone – and all of you too – the media – love George Floyd. The Democrats love George Floyd. There were riots burning the A fucking country because of George Floyd.”

“I’m tired of the antics of Democrats claiming that Republicans love Donald Trump,” Greene said he wrote in the post that accompanies the clip. “I worship God! Democrats still worship convicted criminal George Floyd.”

Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds. Chauvin was convicted of murder and Floyd’s death sparked a nationwide reckoning over racism and police violence.

A spokesperson for Greene did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.

Trump was convicted on Thursday of 34 counts of falsifying business records tied to his former lawyer Michael Cohen’s reimbursement of hush money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels in the final days of the 2016 campaign. Trump has pleaded not guilty in the case and denied Daniels’ allegations that she had a sexual encounter with him in 2006. Her sentencing in the case is scheduled for July 11.
