HUNTER Biden’s gun trial officially ended with a guilty verdict on all charges in what most respected legal experts called an open-and-shut case from the start.

This is the first time that the son of the sitting president has been on trial.

Among the charges, Hunter was found guilty of falsely claiming to be drug free when applying to purchase a gun in 2018.

For President Biden, the upside is that this was a relatively quick trial that lasted just seven days and will be almost entirely forgotten by the weekend as it is washed out by the next news cycle.

However, it’s no secret that Hunter’s legal troubles have been a headache for his father, because it eliminates Joe Biden’s argument that his family is honest and decent while the Trumps are corrupt and evil.

The downside for the Biden campaign is that the Hunter gun trial is just the appetizer.

The main course comes in September, when another trial over tax charges takes center stage, less than two months before the elections.

The public can expect to hear more from prosecutors about how Hunter didn’t bother paying federal income taxes for two years on more than $1 million in income.

They will also be privy to the fact that their first child owes his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, $2.9 million in child support payments and legal fees.

And then there’s the obscene amount of money Hunter spent on drugs, booze and prostitutes, which will be told on the national stage.

“I am the president, but I am also a father. Jill and I love our son and are so proud of the man he is today,” President Biden said in a statement before the trial began last week.

The big question ahead is this: Will Hunter be such a huge obstacle to his father’s re-election campaign that he could cause some voters who may have supported Joe Biden in 2020 to stay home in November?

We have heard repeatedly from Jill Biden, the current first lady, that “decency is at the ballot box” for four years. And that was the Biden brand: Decency. A return to normality. Enough of the chaos experienced daily under Trump. The great unifier had arrived.

Instead, it has been exactly the opposite.

Poll after poll shows a decided majority of voters believing Joe Biden has done more to divide the country than unify it. Trust in institutions, including intelligence and health and justice systems, is at historic lows.

And speaking of lows, Joe Biden’s polling average is just 37 percent approval, the lowest of any first-term president in polling history at this stage of his presidency.

Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison as a result of Tuesday’s conviction.

Most legal analysts, however, do not believe that he has set foot in prison for even a minute. Instead, he will likely serve probation and/or be fined.

Therefore, in this aspect, if this continues, the image of the president’s son behind bars will not hang over the campaign.

The left’s effort will now begin to equate Hunter’s guilty verdict with Trump’s.

But Hunter unambiguously committed real crimes. He lied in his weapon form. He was using drugs at the time. This is a crime, pure and simple.

Never before has the justice system been that front and center during a general election campaign.

Donald Trump still has three criminal cases to face, although they appear to be delayed until after the election.

There is still an ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Biden regarding his alleged role in Hunter’s shady overseas business dealings in China, Russia and Ukraine, among other countries.

And Hunter will face the aforementioned tax trial in the fall.

Ultimately, the 2024 elections are a mess. Forget about issues like inflation, gasoline prices, crime and illegal immigration and endless wars. This is the lawfare election dominated by trial coverage from both sides.

And for most Americans, they simply have bigger priorities on their hands right now.
