WES Streeting says he is “terrified” that someone will die from the misuse of fat scams.

The Labor Party’s shadow health secretary has said he thinks modern appetite-suppressing medicines need tighter regulation.

It follows reports of thin women ending up in A&E after lying to get weight-loss injections from online pharmacies.

Streeting said: “My strong advice to Sun on Sunday readers is not to take any new medical medications without first consulting your GP.

“Whatever you do, don’t think that in order to have a beautiful Instagram body, taking this type of medication is safe or sensible.

“It is a serious risk to our health. And I’m really concerned about where we are as a society in terms of body image.

“I am really concerned that medicines that could make a positive difference to our health are at risk of being misused.

“And I’m genuinely scared that someone is going to die.”

He added: “I think we will need much closer clinical supervision and regulation.

“I will look at this very carefully if we win the general election.”

NHS England medical director Professor Stephen Powis said the drugs should not be seen as a “quick fix for people trying to prepare their body for the beach”.

Streeting – who will ban the next generation from buying cigarettes legally – revealed he has never taken a puff.

Although he confessed to having tried a hookah pipe abroad.

And he admitted he has been getting through the grueling general election campaign thanks to caffeine and sugar.

“I’m basically sustaining myself during this campaign on a diet of coffee and Haribo Tangfastics,” he said. “This is not recommended.”
