The man who attacked Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer during a raid at the couple’s San Francisco home in 2022 has been found guilty by a jury in the state case against him, the Associated Press reported.

David DePape has already been convicted of federal charges in the October 28, 2022, break-in and attack on Paul Pelosi, and DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison in that case.

The jury convicted DePape of first-degree robbery, false imprisonment, threatening a family member of a public official and aggravated kidnapping, according to the AP.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Nancy Pelosi, former speaker of the House, was in Washington, DC, at the time of the invasion and was not injured.

Paul Pelosi testified during the federal trial that he was woken up by “a very large man” with a hammer and zip ties on the day of the raid, who asked “Where is Nancy?”

Paul Pelosi managed to call 911 and the police when DePape wasn’t looking. Officers arrived and found DePape and Pelosi with their hands on the gavel that DePape was wielding. The officers ordered him to drop the gavel and DePape hit Pelosi in the head.

Pelosi, then 82, suffered a fractured skull.

At the state trial, San Francisco Public Defender Adam Lipson told jurors in closing arguments that DePape was living a lonely life and had “fallen down the rabbit hole of propaganda and conspiracy theories” before the break-in and attack. The Associated Press reported.

During the state trial, Lipson told the jury that DePape was guilty of three of the charges, but that prosecutors did not present evidence to convict him of threatening a family member of a public servant and of aggravated kidnapping.

DePape was convicted in November in the federal case of assault and attempted kidnapping and was sentenced in May.
