President Joe BidenMitch Landrieu’s campaign co-chair on Sunday hinted that Biden will target the former president donald trump about his legal troubles at Thursday’s presidential debate in Atlanta.
In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Landrieu said: “It doesn’t really matter how Donald Trump appears if he comes in unbalanced, as he does most of the time, or if he just sits there and is quiet. People will know that he is a twice-impeached criminal who was found to have defamed someone, sexually assaulted someone, and gone bankrupt six times.”
Guest moderator Peter Alexander mentioned a new ad from the Biden campaign who calls Trump “a convicted felon” and asked Landrieu whether that line of attack would make it into the debate on Thursday.
“I’ll let the president say what he’s going to say, but the fact is that the sky is sometimes blue and Donald Trump is a convicted criminal,” Landrieu said.

Meanwhile, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Florida Rep. Byron Donalds — both Republicans rumored to be on Trump’s list of candidates at one point — offered their own advice to the former president ahead of the debate.
“I think what you’re going to see is obviously the CNN moderator is going to try to do everything he can to go after President Trump, to try to get under his skin. I think President Trump, what he will do is focus everything back to Biden’s terrible agenda,” Donalds told Fox News on Sunday.
“I don’t think he has to talk about anything personal in this debate, because he will have a lot of good things to talk about, in contrast to Joe Biden’s policies… [which] have been devastating for families living here in this country,” Noem told “Meet the Press.”
“That’s what I think President Trump is planning to focus on,” she added.
Last week, Biden campaign officials told NBC News that the president would focus on clarifying Trump’s positions on reproductive rights and tax incentives during the debate.
“Donald Trump wakes up every day thinking about himself, thinking about his rich friends, and then really thinking about ways to harm people with the power that he would have if he were president of the United States again,” Landrieu said Sunday. adding: “And I think the president wants to make the difference between the two very clear.”
The two campaigns had less than two months to prepare for this week’s debate after the date was announced last Ion. Biden has been meeting with top advisers at Camp David in Maryland preparewhile Trump participates in more informal political sessions with his team – including those said to be in your vice presidential short list.
