TThe most discussed topic following the first presidential debate of 2024 on Thursday was not former President Donald Trump’s return to the debate stage, but rather President Joe Biden’s questionable-at-best performance. But it appears the attention, or lack thereof, was not well received by Trump.

The presumptive Republican nominee spoke Saturday, posting on Truth Social, his own social media platform owned by Trump Media & Technology Group. He shared his takeaways from his debate against Biden, which lasted 90 minutes and was moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

When I left the stage on Thursday night, at the end of the highly anticipated ‘Debate’, anchors, political reporters and everyone shouted that I had given the best debate performance in the long and storied history of Presidential Debates. Everyone effectively said, ‘Trump was fantastic!’” wrote the former president.

He continued, adding: “This theme was universal, even on CNN and MSDNC [referring to MSNBC], but on Friday night it was all about Crooked Joe’s poor performance, and not so much about how well I did. Well, that’s the way it is, but most importantly, the result is the same!!!”

We could find no record of any political anchors or reporters publicly saying that Trump had the “greatest debate performance in the long and storied history of Presidential Debates.” However, one part of this post rings true: much of the debate coverage he has focused on Biden’s performance. Furthermore, analysis of the debate has focused on what the President should do now and what the Democrats think next.

Internet discourse has especially moved away from politics and focused on the age of the two presumptive presidential candidates – Trump is 78 and Biden is 81 – as well as the absurdity of some of their debate moments. On X (formerly Twitter), users latched onto a discussion between Biden and Trump that revolved around their golf skills.

Elsewhere, there were some attention-grabbing Trump political debate moments. On the one hand, he warned that migrants were taking “black jobs” and “Hispanic jobs” from Americans, angering critics. In response, one of these critics, Omarosa Manigault Newman—who worked at the White House during the Trump administration—said “the black and Hispanic community is not monolithic.” Several black representatives posted in Xfighting back against the term. It also drew ire online from reproductive rights advocates after falsely claiming that the Biden administration would “take the baby’s life in the ninth month and even after birth.”

As for what’s next for Trump, he will officially receive the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, July 15-18, where he is also expected to announce his running mate.

Trump also faces conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11, for which he will have to appear in court in New York.
